Senior Community Health Officer

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Health Project Management
-
Lead, organize and supervise the teams of community project.

Build relationships with local authorities, municipalities, leader of informal settlements, schools and the host communities.
- Responsible for training of community mobilizers and community volunteers.
- Formulate health, nutrition and hygiene messages and approaches in consultation with project staff and the Community Volunteers.
- Provide continuous support to community health officers including regular meetings and supervision field visits.
- Set up and maintain a referral system in project area communities and informal settlements.
- Submit timely weekly and monthly reports to the health project manager.
- Reflect the vision of Medair when interacting with team members and beneficiaries.
- Act as link between Medair and communities, between outreach staff and supported SDCs, local authorities.
- Assist in planning and implementation of assessments and surveys as required.
Staff Management
- Line-manage Community Health officers.
- Facilitate regular meetings to assist information sharing between project staff and communities, to ensure all staff members and community volunteers are aware of project objectives and current work plans and to provide the opportunity for feedback.
- Responsible for coaching and technical supervision of Community Health officers in order to develop ownership and full responsibility for health and nutrition activities.
- Assess the training needs of Community Health officers, social workers and community volunteers and ensure that appropriate training is conducted.
Financial Management

Manage the budget related to community mobilization as delegated by the project manager and ensure all expenses are according to budget and meet the Medair standards with regard to financial management, including accountability and good governance.

Communication and Coordination

In close coordination with the health project manager, develop and maintain appropriate, regular, transparent and supportive communication structures with the assigned community volunteer team, SDC staff and other relevant stakeholders (e.g. beneficiaries, community leaders, local municipalities) with the objective of ensuring good cooperation and partnerships.

Participate in coordination meetings related to community health, Medair internal trainings, and other meetings as required, representing Medair and feeding back to the health project manager/project manager on relevant issues.
Logistics

Support the logistics activities for the community health part of the project as required and delegated by the project manager.
Quality Management
- Ensure that all standardised formats are used and guidelines are followed.
Person Specification:
- Relevant degree or diploma (nurse, health educator), or Community development degree
- 4-5 years relevant post-qualification professional experience
- Excellent English (oral & written) and Native Arabic speaker
- Familiar with Microsoft Office programs, in particular Word, Excel, Outlook
- Passionate about serving the poor and Self-motivated.
- Team-player with good inter-personal skills
- Willing to support others and share workloads
- Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels
- Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner
- Ability to adapt communication strategies for different situations
- Strong communication, particularly verbal
