GVC is actually recruiting personnel to cover the position of GIS / Water Loss Specialist – Seconded to the South Lebanon Water Establishment

Position Title:             GIS / Water Loss Specialist – Seconded to the South Lebanon Water Establishment

Reporting to:              Director Manager of the South Water Establishment as Primary and Secondary GVC Capacity Building Coordinator

Duty station:               Based in the South Lebanon Water Establishment Head Office in Saida

Summary:

The GIS / Water Loss Specialist is responsible for supporting the set up and technical supervision of the GIS Unit towards the integration of databases and tools between different departments within the Water Establishment, with a particular focus on Water Loss management through application of Non-Revenue Water good practices. The candidate will also participate in on-field activities, conduction of analyses, issuance of reports, and coordination with different departments and sections within the Water Establishment, towards the achievement of unit objectives.

The incumbent will support the definition and validation of proper internal procedures for the team and will assure knowledge transfer to the assigned staff to the team, whilst maintaining the role of technical support.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant engineering, surveying, or science discipline including training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Previous experience with GIS software, particularly ArcGIS and its associated applications/extensions.
  • Can fluently read, write and understand Arabic and English.

Desirable Skills:

  • Skilled at using GIS software.
  • Experience in water network hydraulic design and analysis.
  • Familiarity with water loss good practices.
  • Analytic abilities and the use of basic mathematical tools.
  • Skilled at using spreadsheet tools such as MS Excel.
  • Good report writing abilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan, supervise, lead, and report activities related to GIS Unit creation for the integration of data between different departments of Water Establishment;
  • Support creation and validation of procedures related to geo-localization of activities of preventive and responsive maintenance directed to analysis and reduction of water loss in collaboration with other departments of the Water Establishment;

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed primarily indoors in an office setting, but field activities require frequent deployment outdoors.
  • Some travel to Beirut and within SLWE service area will be required
  • The Specialist is seconded within Water Establishment and will work within Water Establishment premises.

Employment Conditions:

  • Contract duration: 11 months full-time (end of project, extendable if funding allows)
  • Required Starting Date: ASAP
  • Duty Station: Based in the South Lebanon Water Establishment Head Office in Saida and with some travel to Beirut and within SLWE service area will be required.
