Organizational background

 

The World Food Programme activities include food assistance for nutrition, livelihoods, relief and emergency school feeding, while also supporting humanitarian air and logistics services, food security coordination and infrastructure rehabilitation projects.

This position is open to qualified Lebanese candidates. Female candidates in particular, are encouraged to apply.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Under the overall supervision of the Livelihoods Unit in the Beirut Country Office and the direct supervision of the Head of Sub-Office, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  1. Coordinate and monitor the implementation of the Livelihoods programme at the local level, in close collaboration with the cooperating partners;
  2. Provide specialized expertise and contribute towards the development of project activities, plans and processes within the field of livelihoods and resilience ensuring alignment with wider programme policies and guidelines.
  3. Maintain regular coordination with the WFPs cooperating partner and local government counterparts and provide project management support to on-going livelihood programmes to ensure that the various activities are performed within the established targets and objectives following WFPs policies and procedures.
  4. Provide regular and necessary updates on monitoring issues and sharing findings on livelihood related projects with Head of Sub-office and Country Office Livelihood Focal Point.
  5. Regular monitoring of the project by ensuring weekly field visits to the targeted areas and providing recommendations to the cooperating partner on identified gaps and meeting with the communities.
  6. Ensuring timely submission and processing of project reports, Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) reports and financial reports from the cooperating partners.
  7. Support the unit in preparation of operational plans, annual performance plans and specific MOUs and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for livelihood programmes.
  8. Regularly attend the food security, livelihoods and core cluster working groups and meetings at the area level and provide technical inputs.
  9. Foster relationships and support partnership-building with local partners, agencies, NGOs and government institutions at the local level to ensure efficient implementation of livelihood projects.
  10.  Provide technical feedback to the Cooperating Partners (CPs) on on-going and planned livelihood and resilience programmes at the local level.
  11.  Support in the selection of beneficiaries, validation process, and monitoring of assistance provided to beneficiaries through the utilization of M&E tools at the area level.
  12.  Perform other related duties as required and deemed necessary by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Secondary School Education. University degree in the fields of social sciences, development studies, economics, agri-business, agricultural engineering or any other related field is an asset.

Experience: At least three (3) years of progressively responsible support experience in the fields of humanitarian and development work, social sciences or economics, including at least two (2) years of experience in livelihoods projects.

Desirable Skills: 

  • Good understanding and practical experience in livelihood projects.
  • Experience in livelihood and agriculture development projects.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, ability to plan and organize work under tight deadlines, ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Experience in drafting progress reports and utilizing spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of WFP or UN systems in general.

Language: Fluent in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic.
