MISSION

Under the supervision of the IM Program Manager, the GIS Supervisor will organize the geographical data system of the mission. (S)he will provide support and assist the different programs teams in the collection, the documentation, and the visualization regarding all activities conducted by SI. The GIS Supervisor will train program teams on the use of adapted tools and methodologies and directly implement some of the methodolgies. He/she will work on compiling information to build on SI’s institutional knowledge, producing capitalization reports for SI and donors. The GIS Supervisor will be responsible for proactively produce recurrent maps on SI activities in Lebanon. (S)he will also produce maps on demand for specific purposes.

The GIS Supervisor will work in close cooperation with SI Program Teams to ensure that he/she has an in-depth knowledge of the specificities of the programs conducted and to regularly feedback the program teams on the outcomes of the GIS activities carried out in the field.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

Internal Mapping Expertize

 

  • As technical expert, using specific methodologies, autonomous, s/he conducts a full support service on GIS requests from the field helping understanding needs and driving through the process of map creation. Maps being on paper or digital online.
  • Create and maintain a set of template responding to recurrent mission management needs.
  • Weekly update of a standard set of maps for the mission.
  • He/she conducts continuous technological intelligence on GIS tools and applications in humanitarian contexts, challenging all internal and external service providers, maintaining a high level of in-house understanding.
  • (S)he is responsible for promoting the GIS practice and culture within SI Lebanon.
  • Proactive and flexible, (s)he resolve problems or priorization conflicts related to maps production projects with timely reporting and escalation
  • S/he reports GIS reports to all relevant stakeholders.

 

Capitalization

 

  • Conduct capitalization work on GIS activities in SI, documenting processes, experiences, methodologies and templates
  • S/he reports GIS reports to all relevant stakeholders.

 

External Coordination

 

  • He/she coordinates eventual GIS development in partnership with external GIS partners and stakeholders.
  •  (S)he organises trainings and events related to GIS (ex. Mapathon).

 

 

NOTE: SI's operating bases are in Tripoli, Halba, Zahle, and Beirut. The employee will be required to operate mainly from Beirut. . However, he/she may be required to regularly work from the other bases to perform tasks/attend meetings or trainings/etc. Flexibility in this matter is required. Upon need, appropriate accommodation/transportation will be provided according to SI's policy.

 

The present position can be asked to drive SI’s vehicles during working hours.
