Assessment

  • Collect accurate data’s at field level and participate in data analysis
  • Conduct assessment, baseline and impact surveys
  • Help in assessment in other topics in order to develop new projects
  • Help in designing and setting up criteria for selecting targeted communities and beneficiaries

 

Implementation and operational monitoring

  • Implement activities in accordance with Solidarités International’s and donors’ financial, logistics and technical requirements
  • Plan the activities for which s/he is responsible under the supervision of her/his line manager and  in accordance with the deadlines and technical specificities that have been set
  • Help in designing methods and tools for the implementation of the activities and participate to the definition of the strategy for the implementation of the quick mitigation interventions to reduce impact of potential floods as well as for the response to emergencies and shocks
  • Pay a specific attention to and participate to the selection of the beneficiaries following closely the criteria previously defined
  • Organize community consultancy meetings, conduct households and/or individual assessments
  • Actively participate in the constitution of the River Basin Committee (RBC) and the elaboration of the Term of Reference of RBC
  • Organize technical trainings to members of RBC on their missions and role sand responsibilities in collaboration with the DRR supervisor and partners
  • Present recommendations of initial river basin diagnosis to RBC members
  • Organize workshops with RBC members to prioritize and validate mitigation and protection measures to be implemented as well as follow-up workshops during implementation of works 
  • Ensure close follow-up implementation of mitigation measures works prioritized and validated by RBC 
  • Map partners (local / international) per river basin targeted
  • Participate in the organization of simulation exercises and RETEX and of winter season regional preparedness meetings
  • Ensure evaluation of the activities with the beneficiaries by regular field visit using designed monitoring tools and post-monitoring intervention
  • Assist MEAL team for CRM issues
  • Pre-empt any difficulties linked to carrying out the activities and facilitate problem solving
  • Apply safety and security procedures in field operations
  • Reporting / communication

  • Ensure a good coordination and communication with other program teams
  • Pass on to the DRR PM and Field Coordinator any information on the security context, humanitarian needs, activities, logistics, administrative issues or any event that occurred at field level and that may have potential consequences on Solidarités International activities and team security
  • Participate to the general program meetings (weekly, monthly, …etc)
  • Participate in the preparation of the regular program reports (weekly, monthly, annual) and archive his/her monitoring tools and files in Solidarités International office, where they can be accessed by the line manager
  • Keep implementation and monitoring files archived at Solidarites International office accessible to the line manager
  • On request, participate in meetings and workshops related to his/her field of activity and write up minutes for them, if necessary
  • Fill out and update the activity sheet provided in the Tool box
  • Facilitate the capitalization of the project
  • Facilitate communication between Solidarités International and communities, authorities, beneficiaries and other parties in the area
  • Present to the population and local authorities the nature of field operations and create awareness about the program activities
  • Remain in touch with the population and local authorities to understand needs, complaints, and major events that may have an impact on the activities of Solidarités International.
  • Mitigate problems between communities when it arises and inform his/her line managers

Specific skills and experience:

  • University Degree in Geography, Disaster Risk Management or Environmental Science. University degree can be balanced by experience.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a Non-Governmental Organization Environment
  • Experience in infrastructural work (mitigation schemes – dykes, flood diversion channels) – design and implementation.
  • Experience and sensibility for social cohesion and social tensions reduction programming
  • Sound experience in community and municipality engagement and negotiations
  • Experience in monitoring and data collection exercises
  • Volunteer experience in Disaster Risk Management/Reduction (LRC, Civil Protection) is an asset
  • Experience of work in consortium is an asset

 

Soft skills:

 

Language: Good communication skills in English. Fluent in Arabic.
