ROLE PURPOSE: Under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Case Management Officer (and overall guidance of the Child Protection Program Manager) the Child Protection Case worker will be responsible for implementing activities related to case management, targeting vulnerable children and families including refugees, returnees and host- families, enabling them to meet their basic needs whilst enhancing protection through a multi-sector approach.

Level 3 - the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.

 

SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to:Case Management Officer

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

- Responsible for the identification, assessment, documentation and referral (to relevant services) and follow-up of at-risk children and families.

- Conduct regular visits to partners center to work with animators on the identification and referral of at risk-children.

- Conduct home visits to follow up on interventions with families.

- Provide information and arrange social counseling for individual cases, namely children at risk and parents in need of support.

- Receive/ identify and refer cases of vulnerable children and families when necessary to relevant internal sectors and/or external service providers.

- Receive and record confidential documentation on vulnerable children and families’ cases.

- Provide information and advise the beneficiaries on existing social services and how to access them.

- Facilitate, collect and report information regarding the overall situation of child protection risks to refugee children, children of host-families and returnees and other vulnerable/at-risk children.

- Submit weekly reports concerning implemented outreach activities, case load and related challenges.

- Participate in case management meetings and trainings.

- Train staff members on safe identification and referrals.

- Maintain files, registers, computer databases and records in paper or electronic format.

- Work as a member of a team ensuring fluid communication of relevant information in order to make sure that a proper management of the case is preserved.

- Work across different contexts, including local communities, informal settlements, community spaces etc with a particular focus on outreach work and support in identification, referral and case management of the most vulnerable children (in line with organizational strategy).

- Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of child protection and child safeguarding at all times, including respect for confidentiality and always acting in the best interests of the child.

- Comply with Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

- In agreement with Case Management Officer and Child Protection Program Manager, perform other required duties within reason (in line with skills and experience).

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Degree in Social Work

- Experience in working with at-risk children and families, ideally experience in case management

- Experience in community mobilisation and conducting outreach activities

- Experience in working in Informal settlements or collective shelters

- Understanding of social welfare systems and child protection mechanisms

- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic, and either English or French (desirable)

- Ability to write weekly and monthly reports, develop schedules and collect data

- Ability to work under pressure and willingness to work flexible hours in the event of major emergencies

- Commitment  to  and  understanding  of  Save  the  Children’s  aims,  values  and principles  including rights-based approaches
