Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Teacher

Job Scope: The ECCD teacher will provide children (from 3 to 6 years old) with activities designed to promote their social emotional, physical, cognitive and linguistic growth and prepare them for primary education. The responsibilities of the post will require the post holder to have regular contact with young children.

The BLN Support Facilitator will be receiving $9.3 / session 

Location: Zahle

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teacher encourages participation of all children without discrimination, i.e. regardless of gender, ethnicity, language, culture, religion or learning ability.
  • Teacher ensures that children feel comfortable, safe and respected.
  • Teacher ensures that the environment of the classroom promotes learning through the physical arrangements, and use of clear expectations, predictable procedures, and daily routines.
  • Teacher effectively manages the classroom and use child-centred, active teaching approaches, including appropriate positive discipline strategies to manage children’s behaviour.
  • Teacher establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicates those objectives to children.
  • Teacher teaches the national curriculum and uses SCI approaches.
  • Teacher implements learning modules in Arabic and French/English which involve speaking, listening, writing, phonological awareness and reading.
  • Teacher organizes and leads activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development of children, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, indoor and outdoor activities and field trips.
  • Teacher observes and evaluates children's performance, behaviour, social development, and physical health, using SCI assessment tools and keeps records of children learning outcomes.
  • Teacher uses learning outcomes to monitor students’ progress towards curricula objectives. Teacher uses this to address the needs of his/her students and to inform his/her supervisor.
  • Teacher identifies children showing signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related problems, and follows SCI safe and identification mechanism.
  • Teacher participates in SCI capacity building initiatives, attends monthly team meetings and engages in peer-to-peer coaching where applicable.
  • Teacher facilitates positive parenting sessions for caregivers and conduct monthly meetings with caregivers to follow up on students’ progress.
  • Teacher complies with SCI policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • Teacher demonstrates non-discriminatory working practices and encourages this in others.
  • Teacher liaises with SCI staff on internal issues. This includes attendance at meetings organized by SCI and to cooperate with SCI’s monitoring, providing information or reports if requested.

Position Requirements:

University teaching degree, preferably in pre-school teaching

Bi-lingual fluency in Arabic and English/French

Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience with preference in early childhood teaching.
