RESPONSABILITIES AND TASKS

- Community Health Interventions
• As part of the Community Health Intervention, the Midwife belongs to the community health network in order to provide assistance through a preventative approach.
• The midwife will support training modules for building the capacity of the community health workers and nurses in the field of sexual and reproductive health and liaise with community health workers for the intervention development.
• All the times the midwife refers the pregnant and lactating women to the PHC Centers, explains the provision of incentives available at PHCC for ANC and PNC and the full package of medical care available.
• Support the development of educational material for sexual and reproductive health interventions.

- Community Outreach
• Register, keep the track and follow up on pregnant/lactating women within Informal Settlements and Host Communities in the supported PHCCs catchment area, or other selected priority area where intervention is needed.
• Register and follow up on pregnant/lactating women within Informal Settlements and Host Communities identified by the Community Health Workers (CHWs) in the supported PHCCs catchment area.
• Provide basic preventative medical checkup to identified pregnant/lactating women during house visits: measuring blood pressure, blood glucose, weight.
• Ensure pregnant women is doing the antenatal care visits to the nearest PHCC and assess constraints identified for pregnant women.
• Provide health education and counseling on family planning.
• Provide health education about the importance of exclusive breast-feeding and child immunization schedule as per MoPH Lebanon.
• Provide information of supported hospitals for delivery in order for the pregnant mother to make delivery plan.
• Provide health education for pregnant women at risk of co-morbidities such as Diabetes and Hypertension.
• Liaise with the Health Field Officers, Physicians to keep track/follow up on special cases.

- Referrals
• Provide information and link pregnant/lactating women to PHCCs.
• Follow up on referred cases with PHCCs to ensure patients access to adequate healthcare.
• Ensure awareness and knowledge of referral options and pathways.
• Closely follow up and monitor cases referred to PHC or secondary health care centers.
• Closely follow up on cases facing difficulties in accessing PHCCs: beneficiaries with special conditions such as physical disability, legal constraints/lack of documentation among others.
• Link with the CHWs and follow up on identified cases.

- Reporting
• Collect necessary information from CHWs on identified pregnant and lactating women and report accordingly.

.  Perform assessment from beneficiaries and report to the immediate data collected superior on a daily, weekly basis and compile reports on a monthly and quarterly basis.
• Liaise with the IM Officer to make sure data registration is accurate on hard and digital copies.
• Keep up to day the first line manager about changes observed in the field to ensure continuous learning process and activities adjustment.

 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE AND LINKED ACTIVITIES
• Provide essential preventative assistance services and follow up to identified women in reproductive age years, especially pregnant/lactating women.
• Provide Training on Sexual and Reproductive Health to CHWs, Nurses.
• Report on collected data.
• Directly report any difficulties or delays in the implementation of activities.
The tasks and responsibilities defined in this job description are non-exhaustive and can evolve depending on the project’s needs.

 

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
- Language skills: Fluent in Arabic (English or French is an asset)
- Education degree: Midwifery Diploma, certified by the Ministry of Public Health in Lebanon
- Work experience: Proven experience working as a midwife; preferably experience working in NGOs.
- Knowledge and skills:
− Good knowledge of Lebanon governorate geography, willingness to work at the community level
− Excellent knowledge of counseling pregnant and lactating women
− Excellent communication (especially in public) and diplomacy skills to manage relationship in potentially tense situations
− Literacy in reporting, experience in conducting surveys
- Computer skills: Excellent knowledge of the MS office software including Word, Excel, Outlook

- Other: Valid driving license (1 year minimum)
