Purpose:
Plan International Lebanon is seeking an experienced communication specialist to manage the media outreach (especially the social media) and visibility of the project “Encouraging Marginalized Voices in the Lebanese Political Process”, while being responsible for producing appealing short stories, photos, photo captions, and possibly (a plus) short videos on the project’s progress and activities. The communication consultant will also deliver to CSOs training on effective use of social media for advocacy purposes.

Plan International Lebanon was established in late 2016 and supports programmes in Child Protection, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Education, and Economic Empowerment throughout the country.
The Project:
The Project “Encouraging Marginalized Voices in the Lebanese Political Process” aims to support gender-focused civil-society organizations (CSOs) in their efforts towards strengthening women’s participation and bolstering their influence and ability to engage elected municipal and parliamentary leaders on issues affecting their communities, especially women-related issues.
- Capacity Building:
- Define the training’s objectives in coordination with Plan’s Advocacy Specialist, and based on consultations with civil society organizations (CSOs).
- Develop training materials and monitoring tools (presentations, facilitation notes, pre/post-test, evaluation form).
- Deliver one or two days of training to CSOs in September/October 2018 on how to effectively use different platforms of social media for promoting Advocacy Messaging.
- Develop and submit a training report to be sent no later than seven days after the delivery of each training.
- Social Media Plan and Visibility:
- Developing a social media outreach plan for the outreach and visibility of the project’s major activities and milestones.
- Writing short and appealing stories and photo captions of major local campaigns undertaken by the local CSOs, as well as taking photos, to be promoted on social media.
- Developing relevant appealing messaging of the local campaigns undertaken by local CSOs.
- Possibly (based on the social media plan) producing and editing short catchy videos on major milestones of the project.
- Creating, managing, and continuously updating the social media presence of the project, through promoting the project’s objectives, activities, updates, and campaigns on different mainstream social media platforms.
- Media Coverage:
- Supporting in securing interviews for the project’s spokespeople with mainstream media channels.
- Supporting in securing media coverage for the local campaigns and initiatives undertaken by CSOs.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Coordinating with Plan’s Advocacy Specialist and Programme Director on the Project’s Communication Plan, training’s content and objectives, and other key deliverables.
- Providing regular updates on key activities and deliverables to the Advocacy Specialist and Programme Director.
- Addressing and incorporating feedback provided by Advocacy Specialist and Programme Director.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor's degree in Audiovisual, journalism, communications, or equivalent field.
- 3-5 years of experience in media and social media or communications.
- Excellent knowledge of and writing skills in English and Arabic.
- Good Photography skills (video production and editing is a plus).
- Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering trainings.
- Good facilitation skills.
- Flexible working attitude and ability to work both collaboratively and independently within a small team.
- Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse and cross-cultural audience.
