About the role:

MAG is seeking a Team Medic to support MAG’s mine action teams in Syria. You will be responsible for providing medical support, ensuring medical drills and procedures are followed as per Standard Operating Procedures. You will be responsible for ensuring medical equipment, supplies and hygiene standards are maintained. You will work closely with the Medical Coordinator and assist with training national medic staff.

 

About you:

Successful candidates will need an internationally recognised medical qualification and substantial trauma experience, including experience working in remote, post conflict locations as a trauma medic. You will need to be able to work in a challenging and politically sensitive environment. The successful candidate will need to have fluent English language skills to be able to work in this role, with Arabic language skills desirable.

MAG employs Medics as part of multi-skilled Mine Action Teams (MATs). A Medic will be expected to carry out the following activities:
· Medical support to Clearance operations of suspected areas as part of a Mine Action Team.
· Ensuring that medical drills and procedures are carried out as trained and as per Standard Operating Procedures, (SOPs).
· Maintenance and care of the Mine Action Teams medical equipment, drugs and supplies.
· Maintain appropriate records as per MAG procedures.
· Report to the TFM any deficiencies and medical logistical requirements in a timely fashion.
· Ensure that the MEDEVAC/CASEVAC plans for a demining task is understood, maintained and updated as appropriate in cooperation with the TFM.
· Assist in any medical training to the MAT staff.
· Any other duties as required by the Technical Operations Manager / Technical Field Manager ensuring high level of hygiene, clean accommodation facilities, welfare of the staff and sustaining high performance of all staff for the duration of the project.
· Regular training and monitoring of national medics to ensure continuous standards are maintained.
· Assist with Casevac/Medevac procedures as delegated by programme Senior Management Team (SMT)

Person Specification:

Essential Experience
· Recent professional experience in the medical sector, outside hospital/clinic environment
· Significant experience of pre-hospitalisation treatment of accident victims and of providing first-aid in remote locations
· Experience of working in a developing country and an understanding of the constraints this imposes.
· Experience of managing and providing training to a team of national staff
· Experience in healthcare and hygiene planning
· Experience of report writing
Essential Skills and Knowledge
· Excellent organisational skills with the ability to coordinate and prioritise activities
· Excellent literacy, numeracy and IT skills (e.g. Word/Excel)
· The ability to communicate with clarity and credibility on paper and face-to-face
· Verbal and written English language skills

Qualifications
· Qualified Medical Doctor or senior Paramedic
· Advanced Trauma Life Support training and qualification

· Prepared to work in the field with basic support conditions.
· Previous experience in, or exposure to Humanitarian Mine Action
