Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Contribute to development and implementation of an appropriate and effective mental health strategy 
  • Manage the implementation phase of the project
  • Manage the assigned project in order to meet the project objectives within budget and within the allocated time frame  
  • Ensure the proper implementation of the MHPSS activities in response to the crisis, in particular, outreach activities related to Psychological First Aid and communication skills (PFA+), peer support groups, individuals sessions and referrals
  • Formulate and revise the Psychosocial Support (PSS) messages and approaches, in consultation with health project staff and the Community volunteers.
  • Setting appropriate referral pathways
  • Engage with relevant community leaders, community-based organizations, local organizations, and other service providers in supporting beneficiaries to access PSS services.
  • Ensure proper planning and implementation of assessments and surveys as required.
  • Take an active role in MHPSS assessments and mapping to be conducted on the field.
  • Contribute to the analysis of MHPSS activities
  • Set clear objectives and indicators for mental health activities in collaboration with PC and regional advisor
  • Continuously monitor, supervise and evaluate activities and progress, and taking appropriate action as needed to ensure continued progress.
  • Provide input into the integration of beneficiary participation and accountability in all aspects of the project.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities according to Medair, donor and other applicable timeframes and formats.
  • Contribute to the development of new proposals, linked to the assessed needs and gaps and the Medair country strategy, in conjunction with the Projects Coordinator and the Regional mental health Advisor.

Staff Management

  • Manage and supervise the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) teams in the assigned area
  • Facilitate regular meetings to assist information sharing
  • Assess the training needs of mental health staff and ensure that appropriate training is conducted.
  • Develop a positive team culture.

Financial Management

  • Manage the budget for the assigned project with support of the PC.  Ensuring all expenses are according to budget and meet the Medair standards. 

 

Communication and Coordination

  • In close coordination with the Projects Coordinator, develop and maintain appropriate, regular, transparent and supportive communication structures with the assigned team, Medair advisor, local organizations and other relevant stakeholders 
  • Participate in coordination meetings, Medair internal trainings, and other working groups or meetings as required, representing Medair and feeding back to the Projects Coordinator and staff on relevant issues.
  • Coordinate all MH related interventions between the MHPSS team and other departments

 

Logistics

  • Support the logistics activities for the PSS/community health part of the project as required.
  • Liaise, as necessary, with the mental health, logistics and finance staff to ensure items are procured, transported, stored, managed and accounted for correctly.

 

Quality Management

  • Ensure quality implementation of the PSS activities
  • Ensure that all standardised formats are used and guidelines are followed
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of clients, staff and agency information
  • Ensure that all spaces where activities are implemented meet interagency standards for safe spaces whether mobile or static
  • Promote and use the Medair intranet and other operating procedures, ensuring that all standardised formats are used and guidelines are followed.
  • Ensure that the project is implemented in line with donor proposals and requirements and in accordance with Medair, donor, country and international standards.

Person Specification:

  • Relevant degree or diploma (Master’s Degree in Psychotherapy, Public Health, Social Work)
  • 3-5 years relevant post-qualification professional experience (At least 2 year management experience in similar context)
  • Excellent English (oral & written)
  • Native Arabic speaker
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office programs, in particular Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Ability to effectively assess and support persons in crisis
  • Ability to provide follow-up and to monitor as per mental
  • health professional’s recommendations
  • Ability to conduct a full assessment of a person’s needs
  • Skilled in Community-based approach in mental health
  • Mental health in complex emergencies (IASC guidelines, Psychological First Aid, mhGAP…)
  • Believes in a comprehensive and holistic approach towards positive mental health.
  • Ability to manage project implementation
  • Good numerical, report writing and administration skills
  • Problem solving ability
  • Knowledge of humanitarian principles, and other international humanitarian and mental health guidelines and protocols
  • Team-player with good inter-personal skills
  • Willingness to support others and to share workload
  • Aptitude for community mobilisation and capacity-building
  • Experience in training / mentoring / coaching staff
