With discussants:
Emma Humphris, filmmaker, studying Criminology at Oxford University. She lived in Lebanon and volunteered for AJEM (Association Justice and Mercy).
Wadih el-Asmar, human rights activist, co-founder of CLDH (Lebanese Centre for Human Rights)
The short movie Bala Sabab uses contemporary dance to portray the emotions of a person detained for 5 years without judgement. It is based on the true story of a former inmate met by the filmmaker while working with AJEM’s rehabilitation center.
The movie can be a platform to raise awareness around the flaws of the Lebanese judicial system and the actual experiences of inmates coping with arbitrary detention or wrongful conviction. Discussion will address the miscarriages of justice and the broader issues relevant to the Lebanese criminal justice system, namely the human rights violations perpetrated in this context.
Discussion will be held in Arabic.

الملخص: يسافر سجين لبناني في الذاكرة خارج قضبان زنزانته، مستعيداً الخطوات والأفعال نفسها التي أدت إلى احتجازه. إنّها لرقصة مأساوية وموحشة غيّرت حياته إلى الأبد.

إيما هامفريس، مخرجة تتابع دراستها في علم الجرائم في جامعة أكسفورد. عاشت في لبنان وتطوّعت للعمل لصالح جمعية عدل ورحمة.
وديع الأسمر، ناشط في حقوق الإنسان ومن مؤسِّسي المركز اللبناني لحقوق الإنسان.
يعتمد الفيلم القصير "بلا سبب" الرقص المعاصر سبيلاً لتجسيد العواطف التي تعتري شخصاً بقي قيد الإحتجاز لخمسة أعوام من دون صدور حكمٍ بحقه. والفيلم مقتبس من قصة حقيقية عن سجين سابق التقته المخرجة أثناء عملها مع مركز إعادة التأهيل التابع لجمعية عدل ورحمة.
يمكن للفيلم أن يشكِّل منصة لنشر الوعي عن الخلل في القضاء اللبناني والتجارب الفعلية التي يختبرها السجناء بسبب الإحتجاز التعسفي أو الإدانة الجائرة. سيتناول النقاش عدم إحقاق العدالة والقضايا الأشمل المتصلة بالقضاء الجنائي في لبنان، ولاسيما ما يُرتكب من انتهاكات لحقوق الإنسان في هذا السياق.
