Lerc & Ccrd/ldn Press Release On Syrian Refugees Project

The Lebanese Emigration Research Center (LERC) and Carthage Center for Research (CCRD), a subunit under the Lebanese Development Network (LDN), jointly announce the research project Syrian Refugees in Lebanon, April 2011-2012. This scientific research project reviews the arrival of Syrian refugees to Lebanon following security deterioration in Syria between April 2011 and April 2012.

The main objective of this study is to analyze the assistance to and protection of Syrian refugees in Lebanon in the context of recent political developments and historical Lebanese-Syrian relations. This aim of this research is to contribute to academic literature on refugee migration and ultimately develop recommendations for future refugee interventions.

Complementing desk research and media review, this study will also incorporate interview results with stakeholders in addition to results from a two-day field work to meet Syrian refugees residing in the Wadi Khaled area, as well as local and international organizations working with Syrian refugees, local Lebanese authorities and national officials.

The main outcome will be a publication which will present appropriate recommendations on the development of policies and humanitarian programs for Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

Mr. Sam van Vliet, Research Affiliate of LERC, and Ms. Guita Hourani are to be the authors of the report.
