Medical, Social, & Psychological Assistance For Victims Of Torture

On the 26th of March 2007, Khiam Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture signed a contract with the European Union Delegation in Lebanon within the framework of

Overall Objectives: 
The overall objective of the project is to assist torture survivors in regaining their physical and psychological health in order to help them rebuild their lives and participate as fully as possible in society. The specific objectives are providing free medical, psychiatric, social, and legal assistance to torture survivors; in addition to carrying out social research that will increase the quality of treatment and rehabilitation services, prepare medical reports, train health personnel. The Target Group: Survivors of torture and their families, the beneficiaries of the project are 1000 direct victims and 2500 Indirect victims (the families) in addition to the victims of forcible disappearance.
Activities: 
1- Maintain and strengthen provision of medical, psychological and social assistance to survivors of torture. 2- Organize a series of training sessions among which: A) A formation training for trainees in the field of social intervention with torture survivors and their families, Monitoring, reporting and documentation of torture cases, and introduction to the skills and basic techniques of a trainee. B) A training session about advocacy strategies to be attended by 25 volunteers. The trainees will be introduced to International conventions and treaties against torture and torture in the Lebanese legislations, the latest statistics about torture and the current economic and social situation of survivors of torture. C) A training session to be attended by 25 survivors of torture about their economic empowerment, the techniques of evaluation and follow up of profitable economic projects. 3- Production of TV and Radio spot, in addition to posters, leaflets and brochures in a wide campaign against torture. 4- A drawing contest in around 62 schools all over the country about torture, and raising awareness among students about their right to refuse political violence. The drawings will be collected and published in a book. 5- Organize gatherings and demonstrations in protest against the isolation of torture victims. 6- The celebration of two international occasions per year:
