INTERSOS is a non-profit humanitarian aid organisation that works to bring assistance to people in danger, victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. Established in 1992 with support from the Italian Federation of Trade Unions, its actions are based on the values of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equal rights and opportunities for all people and respect for diversity and coexistence, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable and the unprotected.

The head office in Italy coordinates, supports and monitors the planned activities in the countries of intervention carried out by decentralised offices.

 

Job Purpose:

 

The Hygiene Promoter is part of the INTERSOS AICS Project Team, working on project activities which includes: planning, implementing and monitoring of hygiene promotion activities, and contributing to awareness and communication campaigns, in the framework of INTERSOS Program in South Lebanon funded by AICS. The Hygiene Promoter works in close collaboration with team members of the Programme, in coordination and under the supervision of the Hygiene Promotion Office and the Deputy Project Manager. He/she contributes to and is part of conducting surveys and assessments, collecting and processing of information, implementing activities and reports. He/she spends most of his/her time in the field and is in regular and direct contact with beneficiaries and local authorities of the targeted communities (host community and Syrian refugees).

 

Generic Duties:

  1. Under the supervision of the Hygiene Promotion Office and the Deputy Project Manager, plan, implement, monitor and supervise all the hygiene promotion (HP), communication and capacity building of project activities running in the field.Perform accurate data collection and needs assessments and report to the Hygiene Promotion Officer, MEAL and Communication Assistant and to the Deputy Project Manager.
  2. Collect, analyse and interpret all technical data concerning the HP and communication activities in the field, and preparing weekly logbooks as required by the Hygiene Promotion Officer and Deputy Project Manager.
  3. Contribute in liaising and coordinating all the HP, communication and capacity building activities with the other INGO partners of the project, community representatives, beneficiaries and other local and international agencies representatives engaged in the HP WASH sector across the project sites.
  4. Prepare and file relevant documents according to procedures.
  5. Contribute in identifying problems and report on WASH needs and concerns in the target areas.
  6. Contribute in identifying, establishing and reporting on eventual WASH trainings and/or technical support needs of local water authorities, municipality members, WASH Committees, and other actors in the target areas.
  7.  Submit work plans and reports over the implemented activities on weekly and monthly base.
  8. Participate in workshops and trainings in the WASH sector in order to broaden working knowledge and potentially transfer acquired information onto colleagues and beneficiaries.
  9. Suggest new methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of activities.
  10. Perform other related duties upon request to support the project team and the project implementation process.

 

Specific Duties:

  1. Organize and conduct KAP surveys, questionnaires or assessments as required.
  2. Implement and monitor all the hygiene promotion, communication and capacity building activities.
  3. Participate in elaborating the project’s hygiene promotion and communication material
  4. Prepare, on weekly basis, a detailed HP work-plan to submit to the Hygiene Promoter Officer for its final approval.
  5. Organize and supervise all the awareness sessions, trainings and workshops that will be implemented during the duration of the project.
  6. Organize and supervise all the item distributions that might occur during the implementation of hygiene promotion sessions/events and communication campaigns.
  7. Produce weekly/daily progress reports on the HP and capacity building field activities, contract status and beneficiary participation as required.
  8. Liaise with local authorities and community representative to ensure the proper implementation of the HP programme and the participation of all the concerned people.
  9. Contribute to the development of monitoring tools to measure the impact of the hygiene promotion/capacity building activities implemented in coordination with the HP Officer and the MEAL and Communication Assistant, this may include focus group discussions and key informant interviews.
  10. Ensure that activity documents such as sessions’ attendance sheets, minutes of meetings, etc. are properly filed and kept secure.
  11. Identification and referrals of needs and potential new beneficiaries to the Deputy Project Manager.
  12. Participate actively and constructively in team meetings.
  13. Respond to donor requests for special cases that need individual attention and follow their progress.
  14. Fulfilling other duties of similar level if needed across other INTERSOS projects in the area.

 

Generic professional competencies:

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience of which a minimum of 1 year of demonstrable competence and experience in WASH programs, for international or local development organisations.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of Hygiene Promotion in urban context.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge Community Based Approach in Wash Operations, especially related to HP activities
  • Familiar with the minimum WASH standards (eg., Sphere, WASH Sector Standards in Lebanon)
  • Strong organizational skills and able to coordinate and manage a diverse array of activities and stakeholders
  • MS proficiency (Word, Excel, etc..)
  • Strong Reporting skills
  • Experience in conducting surveys, managing data and statistics is desirable
  • Knowledge of the NGO operations and the dynamics of the humanitarian sector is a plus
  • Any previous experience with INTERSOS is a plus.
  • Driving license.
