Background/IRC Summary:  

Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is an international organization specialized in emergency and humanitarian programming. In January 2014, as part of the Child protection programming the IRC began the implementation of a specialized pilot program for street and working children- activities include the provision of psychosocial support and case management services for Street and Working Children in Mount Lebanon/Beirut.

 

Job Overview/Summary:

The SaWC Facilitator will be responsible for working closely with street and working children. The SaWC Facilitator will work in and around Mount Lebanon conducting PSS activities. The facilitator position will also support in the direct implementation of the Apprenticeship Program, through the monitoring of beneficiaries in placements, following up with employers, and ensuring the completion of M&E forms on a weekly basis. ). Internally the SaWC Facilitator will be working closely with the Child Protection Officer.

 

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support in the implementation of children’s play activities for a minimum of 4 hours per day amounting to 80 hours per month, at the agreed times and Conducting community awareness activities on the SHLS and through mobile activities .
  • Ensure a safe and child-friendly atmosphere within the closed spaces, and Safe Healing and Learning Spaces, including no physical discipline or fighting. .
  • Ensure a variety of structured games and activities within the SHLS, catering to the needs of children of different ages, genders, and abilities.
  • Maintain and keep daily records of children attendance.
  • Gather data from the children for registration and filling in of the M&E tools related to the children’s well-being throughout the project.
  • Consistently consulting children on all aspects of the SHLS and taking their views into account.
  • Getting involved – sitting with the children and encouraging them.
  • Speaking with parents of children who are not participating and encouraging them to let their children participate.
  • Providing opportunities for safe expression: build a relation of trust and understanding with children.
  • Developing rules with children and apply consistently: develop these rules with the children themselves. Rules must be fair, appropriate and agreed on by the children themselves
  • Providing opportunities for children to participate in designing and conducting activities
  • Ensure that children feel comfortable, safe, and respected.
  • Ensure that all games and equipment are accounted for and stored securely at the end of the day.
  • Screen for and monitor protection needs and gaps in and around the SHLS and refer child protection cases to the child protection officer or the case management team/focal point
  • Support in identifying beneficiaries for the Livelihoods Apprenticeship Program, and refer them to the child protection officer or case workers.
  • Support in identifying employers for placements, based on the Livelihoods and Apprenticeship SOP.
  • Support in conducting weekly visits  to the apprenticeship placements to monitor performance progress of the apprentice, and placement conditions;
  • Support in conducting pre and post questionnaires, document Bio data, collect time sheets, code of conduct and contracts for apprentices

Job Requirements:    

  • Be a positive role model and demonstrate conflict-solving behaviors.
  • Good communication skills
  • Minimum of 1 year experience of implementing child protection programs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of working with children and particularly vulnerable children.
  • Personal qualities: Team player, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure well and work in cross-cultural setting.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic, English speaking is a plus.
  • Staunch advocate of child protection and child rights.

 

Desirable not essential

  • Experience working with street and working children
  • Experience working with Syrian, Dom and Turkmen communities
