Description:

Background/IRC Summary: The International Rescue Committee is an international organization specializing in emergency and humanitarian programming. In response to the influx of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, the IRC started a Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE) programme in 2012 with programme strategies implemented in various locations in the Northern and Beka’a Governorates. Through IRC’s work in Lebanon, adolescent girls were identified among the most at risk groups to multiple forms of gender based violence (GBV). Interventions designed to support girls and promote their empowerment are fragmented and the need to engage them early during this critical phase in their development to better prevent violence before it occurs, and adequately equip them with the skills to lessen their risk to violence is a priority.
