BACKGROUND
INARA provides life-altering medical care and reconstructive surgery for children (0-18 years) who have injuries or illnesses due to war or unsafe living conditions as refugees, and are unable to access or afford treatment. INARA’s work consists of filling the gap in access to free of charge medical and surgical treatment when not provided by other institutions or non-profits. INARA also supports ongoing cases with medication, medical equipment (such as prosthetic, eye glasses, glass eyes, hearing aids), laboratory and diagnostic testing, transportation, accommodation prior/post-surgery, and other therapeutic regimens (speech therapy, physiotherapy, psychotherapy).
INARA is looking for a full-time Communications Manager to lead its communications department. For current legal requirements, this position is a local hire in one of INARA’s field offices (Beirut, Lebanon or Gaziantep, Turkey). Accordingly, this position is extended to Lebanese and Turkish nationals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy
- Developing the INARA communications strategy once per year and leading the Communications team to successfully implement said strategy
- Regularly evaluating the success of the INARA communications strategy and reporting back to senior management
- Laying out ways for the communications outputs to grow in order to ensure the successful implementation of the INARA communications strategy
- Developing key messaging for the organization and ensuring this is refreshed as and when needed
- Providing communications advice on management decision-making
Social media and website
- Daily coverage of INARA’s social media platforms – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin and Youtube
- Daily moderation of and response to INARA’s social media
- Delivering timely reports on website and social media traffic, including corresponding donations
- Maintaining and ongoing development of INARA’s website including updating content regularly
- Coming up with ideas for content creation, including collecting case stories and documenting the impact of INARA’s work
- Writing case stories from both Turkey and Lebanon to add to the INARA website case gallery
- Coordinating with the team in this capacity to create and deliver content
- Building and cultivating positive relationships with key social media informers
Campaign communications
- Working with the Fundraising & Development Coordinator to plan and develop communications for fundraising campaigns
- Leading on communications campaigns for fundraising
- Development and implementation of other advocacy or awareness raising campaigns
- Developing marketing materials in liaison with the Design Officer to supplement campaigns
Media relations
- Building relations with media outlets and journalists
- Drafting and distribution of press releases
- Updating the press pages on INARA’s website as and when coverage comes out
- Monitoring opportunities in the press that INARA can offer up opinions on
- Briefing senior members of staff ahead of media interviews
- Upholding INARA’s reputation in the press should any reactive media queries come in, preparing statements with sign off from the Country Managers in both countries and the Regional Director
- Developing and updating INARA’s press lists
Branding
- Managing INARA’s brand in close liaison with the Design Officer
- Liaising with the Design Officer on marketing jobs and ensuring that the INARA brand is successfully implemented
Marketing
- Working with the Design Officer on creative marketing collateral to help promote INARA’s work and raise awareness amongst potential donors
Events
- Working with the Fundraising & Development Coordinator on future awareness raising events
Operations
- Maintaining INARA’s website on Squarespace
- Maintaining and staying updated with Podio integrations
- Maintaining INARA’s Stripe account where we receive donations alongside the Fundraising & Development Coordinator
- Managing the Annual Report process with close liaison with both Country Managers, the Design Officer and the Finance team
Management
- Responsible for managing the Content Creators in both Lebanon and Turkey, the Arabic Communications Officer and the Design Officer
Reporting
- Reports to the Country Manager of base country on a regular basis
REQUIREMENTS
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5 to 7 years of experience working in communications, journalism, campaigning and/or advocacy
- Experience in communications for a non-profit organization
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in English with an ability to communicate to a wide range of stakeholders (donors, media, partners, the public)
- Ability to multitask and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work within INARA’s guiding principles
Desirable
- Experience in communications within the health sector
- Experience in communications in the Middle East
- Experience in fundraising in non-profits organizations
- A demonstrable understanding of the current socio-political and refugee contexts in Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, and Iraq
- Proficiency in Arabic language is a plus
