The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been present in Lebanon since 1967 and has carried out its humanitarian work through different periods of conflict, including Lebanon’s 15-year-long civil war from 1975–1990. We are currently responding to the rapidly growing needs of displaced people fleeing war and violence across the region into Lebanon as well as the local communities hosting them.

The ICRC activities on behalf of people affected by war and violence in Lebanon include, but are not limited to, ensuring people affected by conflict can get access to basic health care, services such as water and electricity and restore their economic security, securing humane treatment and conditions for detainees, building respect for the international humanitarian law  (IHL) and supporting the families of the missing persons.

We are based in Beirut and have offices in Tripoli, Tyr and Zahle.

"Social Media/ Digital Officer"

Full time – “Open-ended” Contract

Job purpose:

The Digital Officer works to enhance the digital reputation and positioning of the ICRC, furthering the goals and objectives of the digital strategy. S/he drives the ICRC's efforts to connect with relevant audiences through digital content and channels by editing, creating and publishing content in different channels. 

Functional responsibilities:

Online and Social Media Communication

  • In agreement with the Communication Coordinator and in coordination with the Digital Content Manager, proposes a social media strategy for the delegation, in line with the delegation’s objectives and operational priorities
  • Contributes and develops the social media mapping of the delegation, with a view to increase the delegation’s understanding of the social media landscape in Lebanon and in the region; provides regular and ad hoc reports/analyses
  • In support to the digital content manager, and in cooperation with the production officer, develops content for the ICRC institutional social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram blogs); actively promotes them
  • Manages the Delegation´s online platforms: Facebook, country web page and others as needed (e.g. Instagram, Twitter)
  • Leads and/or supports the production of audiovisual material (short films) and visual content (infographics; timelines, etc.) for social media platforms
  • Periodically evaluates the performance of the Delegation´s content on social media platforms on the basis of key performance indicators, extracts lessons learned and proposes new content
  • Ensures proper and continuous interaction with social media users; assists the Digital Content Manager in developing a network of contacts among social media experts/activists, in particular the “community of bloggers” of the delegation.
  • Act as back up of the Digital Content Manager when needed.

Social media monitoring / Environment scanning

  • In coordination with the Public Communication (Media) Officer, regularly monitors online/social media, and identify potential and actual perception/reputation problems for the ICRC
  • Develops reports on social media

Certifications/ Education Required:

  • University degree in Communications or related field

Professional Experience required:

  • 3 - 5 years work experience in a similar field
  • Excellent knowledge of 2.0 communication tools (Good Skills in digital analysis and digital marketing)
  • Good audiovisual production skills
  • Good content visualization skills
  • Good storytelling skills
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft office)
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English and Arabic
  • Photo Audio Visual skills a plus
