Disability Inclusion adviser

S/He acts as the focal point for disability inclusion matters at project level. S/he strengthens ongoing and/or implements new activities in the field of disability inclusion programmes and provides physical rehabilitation projects and service providers (disabled people's organizations and National Red Cross Societies) with appropriate support in promoting the development of an inclusive approach for people with disabilities.

Responsibilities:

• The candidate is the focal person for all matters relating to ICRC PRP’s social Inclusion component and represents ICRC at national level.
• Undertakes a situational analysis for Social Inclusion projects, develops a strategy and action plan for the PRP social inclusion program.
• Develops and maintains working relationships with the appropriate Government departments, authorities and ministries at local and national levels.
• Networking with NGO’s (International and local), associations, organisations (International and local) and disability groups (Disabled People’s Organisations – DPOs) related to social inclusion and disability rights advocacy and private enterprises.
• Develops links analyses and coordinates Social Inclusion activities relating to disability issues between physical rehabilitation partners structures, NGOs, Educational and vocational training facilities and private enterprises.
• Assists in the development of the Wheelchair Basketball program, ensuring means to gain financial independence and sustainability.
• Assumes responsibility of the PRP Social Inclusion file including budget relating to the project.
• Coordinates ICRC SI activities with interlocutors level, (i) NGOs working within the SI sector and willing business partners at Central, governorates levels.
• Participates in field trips, establishing links with communities and promoting Social Inclusion activities.
• Performs initial evaluation of patient and families for vulnerability in relation to ICRC criteria of admission for physical rehabilitation services. Facilitates, educates and refers relatives of vulnerable patients to understand possibilities of financial coverages through humanitarian actors.
• Coordinates patient discharge and continuity of care planning with respective referral system.

Qualifications and skills:

• University degree or equivalent in a subject relevant to the post such as social work, business and administration, project management, international development, social sciences.
• Post graduate degree in public health or development is an asset
• Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in the field of social inclusion or disability
• Excellent spoken and written skills in Arabic and English, (French is an asset) including the ability to write quality reports and give clear and accurate presentations.
• Ability to work independently with strong analytical skills as well as in a team setting
• Proven ability to coach and advise organisation (capacity building)
• Willing to travel to ICRC partnered centres and other field missions relating to PRP activities
• Ability to establish priorities and undertake assigned tasks with minimum supervision
• Knowledge of disability sport and right for persons with disabilities (i.e. UN convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and national law)
