Lebanon has signed many conventions and international agreements as part of being a country that promotes human rights and preserves the rights of its women and children. Despite the country’s commitment to enhancing better living, violence against women and children is still challenging to control. It is well known that the cultural norms and the patriarchal society in Lebanon contribute to encouraging discrimination and any form of violence against women and children. That is why the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) is concerned with eliminating gender discrimination in textbooks and formal education materials.

Teachers are part of the society and usually carry on the traditional constructions of gender roles. Without adequate teacher training the success of school-based projects is severely constrained. Teacher trainings need to include courses that explore ways in which gender discrimination can be challenged within schools. They need first to familiarize themselves with basic theoretical and practical assumptions regarding gender. By doing so, the educational achievements and choices of the students will also be affected in a positive way.

Our Project seeks to make teachers aware of their subconscious gender-related behaviour in the classroom, make teachers aware that they subconsciously provide gender-stereotypical role models in the classroom, make teachers aware of the different approaches to learning and to performing tasks among pupils in general, and specifically any differences between boys and girls. And also of how the gender of the teacher may affect the way they approach “typical” boy or girl behaviour and make teachers aware of the influence they and schools have on their students’ perspective of society and the world.

In the framework of  IPW & OHCHR Project on Promoting Gender awareness in schools in Lebanon, we are seeking to hire a Gender Experts Trainers. The Trainer will be responsible for the development of Gender Training in the coming three months to promote the agenda of Gender awareness in schools in Lebanon
