Harasstracker is an initiative combatting the normalisation and acceptance of sexual harassment and sexual assault in Lebanon.Harasstracker adopts a comprehensive approach joining data collection for advocacy using online reporting tools and sociological research as well as awareness campaigns and knowledge sharing initiatives. The three major objectives of HarassTracker mapping and documenting the aggravatingly under-reported sexual harassment in Lebanon, understanding the links between the geography and demographics of the city and this particular form of social enforcement of gender and power dynamics, beyond long held myths and unsubstantiated beliefs, and producing evidence for advocacy claims and possible policy recommendations.HarassTracker’s long term objective is to open the discussion on what constitutes sexual harassment and shift the social perceptions and general discourse from victim-blaming and dismissal to an active investigation of the causes and possible interventions. We believe that it is possible to end sexual harassment by ending its normalisation and acceptance and increasing social and punitive consequences on the harasser.
