GVC is an Italian NGO founded in 1971. Actually is working in 22 countries worldwide. GVC presence in Lebanon dates back to the begin of Syrian Crisis and since then GVC has been implementing emergency and development projects in Bekaa financed by International Donors mainly in WASH sector.
GVC is actually recruiting personnel to cover the position of Protection & Empowerment worker to support activities in Bekaa.
Position Title: Protection & Empowerment worker
Reporting to: Protection Officer and Community Empowerment Supervisor
Duty station: Al Ain
Salary grade: G3/L1
OBJECTIVES:
Field implementation of project activities coordinated by the Protection Field Officer and the Community Protection Approach Officer with a timely and good quality supervision in line with GVC Protection Strategy.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- CPA Data Collection
- Uphold Humanitarian and Protection principles throughout the CPA phases
- Respect and apply principles of dignity, respect, safety and participation during all field work
- Ensure informed consent is provided by each community member participating to CPA data collection
- Commit to confidentiality and non-disclosure of personal information of informants and of data collected through the CPA and individual approach
- Primarily responsible to collect primary and secondary data as per GVC Community Protection Approach methodology; this includes:
- Pre-data collection from available studies and resources
- Administer Risk Assessment questionnaire, Risk and Resources Mapping, GPS mapping, FGDs, Individual Interviews and transect walks
- Timely document findings of data collection in appropriate forms
- Contribute to an effective information management through the provision of disaggregated data on populations, problems and coping strategies
- Track community resilience mechanisms and ensure community protection empowerment through protection awareness and community referral
- CPA Data Analysis
- Regularly discuss findings of data collection for analysis purposes with Protection Field Officer and CPA Officer
- Timely report to Protection Field Officer and Specialist, identified situations or individuals involved in forms of child labor and early marriage
- CPA Implementation
- Individual approach:
- Keep records of cases in need of urgent protection, legal assistance, health, WASH and SHELTER related issues
- Conduct mobile field visits 4 times per week to informal settlements to meet with persons of concern within the community and identify individuals at risk and humanitarian needs as per monthly work plan
- Assess using GVC forms, identified vulnerable households or individuals in need of specialized services,
- Timely refer to the Protection and WASH-Shelter team vulnerable individuals and HH in need of Professional Support
- Ensure data are collected on ODK
- Ensure awareness sessions on protection issues are timely implemented
- Protection Response Plans:
- Support the implementation of GVC community based protection strategy within Syrian refugees through mobile outreach activities
- Work to identify and support focal points and families within ITSs ensuring awareness, monitoring activities and follow-up
- CPA Monitoring
- Individual approach:
- Monitor cases referred, when no specific protection issues are present
- Protection Response Plans:
- Conduct specific surveys to monitor activities carried out
- Timely inform Protection Field Officer and CPA Officer when significant changes are recorded at field level within the communities to properly readdress project activities
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor Degree in social science, international law, or similar subject.
- At least 2 years of previous experience in the humanitarian sector within community mobilisation
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel
- Previous work in NGOs will be an asset
- Driving licence
PERSONAL AND INTER-PERSONAL SKILLS
- Arabic and Fluency in written and spoken English
- Good communication skills (with local authorities and communities)
- Understanding of and commitment to humanitarian principles and values
- Highly organised and able to work respecting deadlines
- Passionate in the job, flexibility and willingness to work long hours
- Ability to work in team with respect
- Being flexible and with the ability to adjust to changes and new requirements
EMPLOYEMENT CONDITIONS
- Contract duration: 2 months full-time with possibility to renew;
- Required Starting Date: ASAP
- Duty Station: 100% North Bekaa (GVC Al Ain Office).
