Call for Participants: Green Construction Training

About Cesvi: Cesvi, an international NGO with headquarters in Italy, started operating in Lebanon in 2001, in the Livelihoods sector, through emergency and development interventions in different areas. Cesvi is part of Alliance2015, a strategic partnership represented by lead agency ACTED, Cesvi, Concern and Hivos in Lebanon. Alliance2015 is currently running a program funded by the Dutch MFA that aims to address root causes of conflict and instability in Lebanon, through the creation of sustainable income-generating and livelihood opportunities for vulnerable populations.

The integrated program targets vulnerable communities with economic inclusion activities through three main pathways:

(A) Building the capacity of SDCs leads to an improved delivery of livelihood-related services.

(B) Improving the technical and soft skills of vulnerable individuals to ensure increased participation in the private sector job market.

(C) Improving the capacity of the private sector leads to growth and job creation.

As part of achieving pathway (B), Cesvi is calling interested participants to apply for the Green Construction Training in Saida.

This course aims at creating a pool of skilled labors/individuals in Green Construction, particularly in the field of operation and maintenance and in reduction of resources usage in residential and non-residential buildings.

What to Expect: Participants will be able to acquire knowledge on the following topics:

  • Fundamentals of Energy & Electricity: Introduction to electricity safety and precautions, basic electricity concepts, electricity generation and distribution as well as electronic basics, generation and distributing electricity in an energy efficient manner.
  • Energy Resources and their applications: Introduction to primary renewable and non-renewable energy sources and how to apply them (solar thermal and solar photovoltaic technology, photoelectric effect, photovoltaic cells, and the solar PV system configuration, Solar energy, wind energy, Introduction to HVAC Systems, Air Conditioning Installation).
  • Energy Efficiency & Energy Conservation: exploring the differences between various energy sources and their social, economic, and environmental impacts, including their effects on the environment and climate change.
  • Green Architecture and Construction Materials: exploring various materials used in building construction and their impact on building efficiency. Various prerequisites of rating buildings will be introduced, with a focus on ARZ building rating system.
  • Water, Pipes, Pumps and Efficient Water Use: learning the basics of the plumbing trade in the construction industry, various water saving opportunities and how to apply best practices for water conservation.   
  • Employment Opportunities in Green construction sector: informing participants about the opportunities of employment in green construction and in areas of commissioning, operations, preventative maintenance, repair, installation, calibration, adjustment, and troubleshooting.

Benefits:  Trainees who will obtain the highest grade after completion of the training and show interest will be chosen to get enrolled in a paid apprenticeship program in construction companies in Saida.

Trainees will also get a chance to receive career guidance and job matching services.

A certificate of participation will be awarded to the trainees who will complete the training session (60 hours).

Requirements:

In order to be eligible to participate in the training, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: between 18 and 40
  • Gender: males and females. Women are highly encouraged to apply
  • Nationalities: All nationalities are eligible (Lebanese, Syrian, Palestinian, Iraqi, Egyptian, etc.)
  • Occupation: working in one of the Construction sub-sectors (electricians, mechanics, carpenters, plumbers, insulators, roofers, painters, etc.)

Individuals who are not currently working in the mentioned sector, but are willing to work in Green Construction, are welcomed to apply.

Contribution fee: No fees are required for this training, which is completely free. Please note that Cesvi cannot provide transportation to the training facility in Saida.

Selection process: interested applicants will be contacted to meet with Cesvi’s staff for a first interview and will undergo a written placement test.
