Besme International Group for Humanitarian Assistance in collaboration with the American University of Beirut Center for Civic Engagement and Community Service a project called “New Vision: Click for the Society”, an initiative on NGO photography, focusing on visual storytelling

Overall Objectives:
The main motive for Besme is to take the attention of the youth in the region away from radical armed movements and help them build intellectual skills. The target of the project is to encourage university students to work within civil society. The project relies on enabling young fans of photography to tell what they see through the lens of a camera and spread the word in the communities in Lebanon.Besme has a strong interest to empower youth for a stronger and more active civil society and to enable young people to absorb the knowledge and skills in specific fields in order for them to have better chances for a professional career with consciousness on humanitarian issues.

Results:
The project was finalized with an exhibition on 2016, where five photos from each of nine students were displayed at West Hall, AUB. A total of 45 photos were well received by media and visitors. AUB students, who were awarded with certificates, were very excited to be a part of such a privileged project and all nine final certificate holders stated that they will be more than happy to share their knowledge and experience in future. The interest of students in ‘New Vision: Click for the Society’ seems promising for a consecutive project, which will let them transfer the knowledge that they acquired from the course to young refugees in Lebanon, who do not have the access to such courses
