Minimum required qualifications and experience:

  • At least 2 years of research experience in the social sciences
  • At least a bachelor’s degree in the social sciences
  • Excellent working knowledge of English and Arabic
  • Knowledge of LGBTQ matters is a plus and will be favorably evaluated
  • Ability to deliver project on time and within budget

 

Deliverables:

  • Each research document should include full references, documentation, visual support, names of relevant individuals, and historical evolution, and should be inclusive of the full-spectrum of identities and sexualities. A 5-10 page document containing background information, legislation, societal impact, key figures, and implications for the future should be turned in for every topic. Specific topics will be determined in line with the communities’ needs, the project’s aims, and the researcher’s expertise and interest. The research should include academic articles, interviews, cultural examples, legal support.
  • The project expects 14 different research papers, each one with a specific topic.

 

Interested parties should apply by sending:

  • A CV clearly highlighting relevant work experience.
  • A financial offer with detailed cost breakdown per paper, in USD. Any applicable taxes must be presented distinctly and clearly noting that only individuals are eligible to apply.

  • Sample research on a related topic, in the form of an essay, a scholarly article, or published material.
  • A timeline stating number of days needed to complete each research paper.

Proposals must be made in English to [email protected] with the title “LGBTQ Project Researcher” in the subject.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Proposals received after the deadline will be automatically rejected. AiW reserves the right to make no award, or to make a partial award to a particular individual. AiW may decide to contract one or several individuals and assign only a specific number of research topics per individual, even if the applicant proposes to handle all topics.

Final selection will be based on a combination of the individual’s merit, meeting the minimum requirements, proposed timeline, and overall fees.

About AiW
The Arab Institute for Women (previously the Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World) at the Lebanese American University was established in 1973 to focus on advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality through research, education, development programs, and outreach at the national, regional and international levels.

Objectives of the Project

This project is funded by the Dutch Embassy in Lebanon for the purpose of creating a virtual safe space for the LGBTQ community, providing information and support to LGBTQ youth. The LGBTQ Platform aims to provide LGBTQ youth in Lebanon and in the region with sex-positive information regarding their lives. The project consists of several elements, including informative animated videos and podcasts. They will be designed to be informative and will cover different topics relevant to LGBTQ youth. They will serve as a source for awareness-building and capacity-building, providing important and relevant information in a friendly and positive manner.
