Terms of Reference Development of the Business and Marketing Plan for Community based Early Childhood Education Centers

  1. Purpose: The development of a business and marketing plan that is informed by market analysis and by the financial history of implementing education programs gathered by Ana Aqra since 2012. The business plan is to guide the scale up of the community based early childhood program of Ana Aqra to serve the disadvantaged Lebanese Communities where the public school does not have capacity or does not provide the service. This initiative is funded by Alfanar venture philanthropy in order to support the financial sustainability of Ana Aqra. Consultancy based  project. 
  2. About Ana Aqra (Ana-Aqra.org) Where we plot to make education for all children possibleAna Aqra Association, founded in 1994, is an independent non-profit organization that advances literacy and independent learning for underprivileged children in Lebanese public schools. Ana Aqra works under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and in partnership with local and international organizations. Since 2010, Ana Aqra’s vision evolved from ‘Making Books Accessible to All Children’ to ‘Making Learning Accessible to All Children’. Correspondingly since 2010, Ana Aqra had two pillars of focus. The first pillar’s focus was to be on implementation of Holistic Education Programs. The Second Pillar’s focus was to be on System’s Strengthening through Teacher Professional Development. The approach selected was the balanced literacy approach within a contextualized model of Colombia Teachers College Readers and Writers workshop. In alignment with Ana Aqra’s vision, ‘To make learning accessible to all children’, the strategy since 2010 has been to prioritize sustainable investments by focusing on producing education resources to support teachers and standardizing the implementation of non-formal education programs serving learners who are in and on their way to public schools.
  3. Duties and Responsibilities: Territorial market assessment Study focusing on the regions where public schools do not have ECE or have reached capacity, and comparing with comparable products. Business Plan to include the scaling strategy over a 5 year period. Branding and Marketing Strategy and Plan. Travel within the country (Lebanon) to recommend feasible locations.  
  4. Qualifications, Person Specification and job related competencies: ResponsibilitiesEssential requirements.
  •   MBA or graduate degree recommended in marketing/ Business Development or related field.
  • At least 5 years in strategic planning and/or Business Development experience - ideally gained from the social enterprise, SME development or private equity sectors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the NGO and the PPP (Private Public Partnership) sector in Lebanon.
  • Understanding of social enterprise concepts and approaches.
  • A strong understanding of Finance, marketing (campaign /e-commerce), Development (Downstream/Upstream) across a range of social enterprise models, or a demonstrable ability to adapt experience into the social investment module.
  • Appraisal skills – strategic and financial – analysis of investees’ strategy and financial position in order to determine appropriate finance level, type, and the potential role to be played by Alfanar venture philanthropy.
  • SBU (Strategic Business Unit) Module analysis – (ROI, balanced scorecard, KPI,SWOT analysis, CSF “Critical Success factors”, prime location assessment criteria) in addition to knowledge and practical experience of interpreting financial modeling.
  • People skills – ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders from different managerial levels).
  • Commitment and motivation - passionate about long-term sustainable development and social development.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic.
