Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Working with teachers and other school staff:

 

In order to succeed in applying the program in schools and supporting teachers and other staff, the Field Officer must adequately perform the following points to assist in creating a successful working relationship:

 

  1. Involve teachers and other staff in their own school experience by instilling a sense of belonging and school pride.
  2. Explore with teachers and other staff factors contributing to success or failure of the program and of students.
  3. Collect data using objective evaluation tools developed by the program evaluation expert and program director.
  4. Enter data and report all evaluations and students' performance to Project Coordinator.
  5. Discuss time management and program-requirements to ensure success.

 

Working with parents (parents’ reading circles):

 

The following points help in creating a developmental working relationship with parents.

 

  1. Orient parents to school requirements, procedures and regulations for   improving reading and thus students' retention.
  2. Consult with the parents’ council regarding the structure of the parents’ reading circle program.
  3. Reinforce the importance of the parents’ role in the schooling process of their children and school expectations of students on an academic level.
  4. Interact with parents and other community members in order to involve them in school reading events and develop a sense of belonging.
  5. Meet with parents on monthly basis and become a friendly information resource regarding improving reading and other issues of concern, (e.g. health concerns, behavioral, psychosocial…).
  6. Implement the reading circles and work towards independent activation of those circles by parents.

Working with Other Staff:

A Field Officer is a member of Ana Aqra Association working staff and community.  In the spirit of collegiality, the Field Officer works with other staff members to promote the program, to preserve organization order and to assist in the functioning of a professional success of programs.

  1. Advocate for teachers, parents and students with project coordinator.
  2. Assist project coordinator in communicating with teachers and monitors on issues of professional development.
  3. Aid project coordinator in communicating with parents’ council and other community leaders.
  4. Assist teachers and other teaching and office staff in carrying out job functions when necessary (examples: help in assessing students, plan activities, ensure resources are available in the classrooms...).
  5. Consult with project coordinator regarding stressing issues and their impact on teachers and students’ behavior and performance.

Professional Development Responsibilities of a Field Officer:

  1. To develop an understanding of one's self and one's professional goals in the Fieldwork of the program.
  2. To develop an understanding of the purposes, roles and functions of various components of the program.
  3. To develop knowledge and awareness of the formal public school rules and code of conduct.
  4. To develop knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective teaching of Reading and Writing.
  5. To interact with other staff in the field to develop knowledge about the general and specific issues of each cluster of schools.
  6. To develop an understanding of professional development opportunities and paths within the field.
  7. To develop knowledge of and skills in using basic resource materials.
  8. To develop knowledge of the targeted population, diversity and important issues that will enhance reading and retaining students in the public school.
