Purpose

ALEF is looking for a Project Officer to lead its project on Freedom of Religion and Belief. Through this project, ALEF wants to monitor hate speech, discriminations and collect information, data and narratives regarding freedom of religion, belief and consciousness.

In addition, the Project Officer will support ALEF’s research team on the criminal justice sector in terms of research and the collection of data and information. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

•    Update the monitoring tool on freedom of religion and belief under the supervision of the Programs Manager.
•    Monitor hate speech, discrimination and freedom of speech and belief online.
•    Collect data and information regarding hate speech, discrimination and freedom of religion/belief-related topics online and through                      interviews  and surveys.
•    Conduct research on freedom of religion and belief, polarization, and civil unrest.
•    Draft the bi-annual reports on freedom of religion and belief.
•    Participate in events such as conferences, roundtables or workshops on freedom of religion and belief and the criminal justice sector.
•    Lead on the volunteers various groups by coming up with activities such as brainstorm sessions, research material, monitoring, and                        communication and visibility deliverables.

 

Qualifications

  • Two years of relevant experience in a humanitarian organization, a research center or law firm.
  • Bachelor degree in Political Science, International Affairs, Law, Journalism, Human Rights and Development, or any related field.
  • Good Knowledge in Human Rights, the criminal justice sector and the Lebanese context.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English (spoken and written), French is a plus.
  • Knowledge of local laws and regulations
  • Strong organizational and managerial skills.
  • Takes initiatives and working independently.
  • Excellent writing skills in English and Arabic
