  • ABOUT ACTED

ACTED in an international NGO that has been registered in Leba­non since 2006. It has an established country office in Beirut as well as a field office in Akkar. More recently, it has been carrying out activities in the South and in Tripoli.

ACTED works closely with local authorities and civil society stakeholders at the com­munity level to implement priori­ty humanitarian interventions such as emergency multi-purpose cash assis­tance, WASH projects (including disease monitoring and infrastructural and be­havioral response), and Shelter interven­tions incorporating multiple modalities. ACTED is also implementing long-term development projects to rehabilitate infrastructure, improv­e agricultural production, increase livelihood opportunities and support state and non-state ac­tors to improve service deliv­ery and social stability through col­lective development planning.

ACTED responds to emergency and develop­ment needs through a community driven approach which focuses on engagement and capacity building of local civil soci­ety and local authorities, with the aim of promoting accountable governance and civic engagement. Moreover, ACTED in Lebanon seeks to support private sector actors to become the key driv­ers in Lebanon’s economic development with the goal of raising the living standards of Lebanese and refugee households, and improving the coping capacity of local communities.

 

  • PROJECT BACKGROUND

      Vulnerable refugees and host communities often struggle to access livelihoods-related information and services. Limited employment opportunities and employment-related skills trainings are available to vulnerable populations. Therefore, ACTED has developed a training program for vulnerable populations offering in the following sectors:  IT, English, Solar energy, decorative construction, food processing, sewing, and HEV). As part of the project, beneficiaries will also benefit from access to job counselling services, practical information about accessing the job market, as well as apprenticeships and job placements

 

  •  Decorative construction training’s Objectives (120 hours):

 

Decorative construction is the final architectural or interior design elements on a residential or commercial construction project. It includes elements such as decorative painting (interior and exterior), wallpapering and the installation of wooden wall cladding, carpets and other types of flooring. 

 

This beginners course is intended to give trainees a broad understanding of what a career in decorative construction involves and to build their skills to a level that will allow them to find employment as a decorative construction assistant.

 

The course will be organised in a series of steps, covering the following topics:

  • A career in Decorative Construction – what it involves, what skills are required.
  • Capacity building – hands-on training and instruction covering specific skills required of a decorative construction assistant. A practical test will be conducted at the end of the course to examine how successful the students perform and the challenges they face.

The training will be based on curriculum that has already been developed. The course outline is as follows:

  2. Paint activities

As part of the training programme, the trainer may use the services of specialists to assist in trainings and demonstrations of specific activities. The trainer will be responsible for the procurement and management of these specialists, as part of their contract with ACTED. The trainer will be requested to submit the CVs of the technical team that will be providing the practical work after the pre-selection stage.

  • Duties and responsibilities:
  • Provide 120 hours training (27 hours of theory plus 93 hours practical based on the curriculum provided) for a total of 20 trainees at the designated Social Development Center in Beirut. The training will be provided on a daily basis on a part time basis (3-4 hours a day) according to a schedule pre-agreed with the Project Manager.[T1] 
  • Monitor and track training feedback from trainees.
  • Provide record and evaluate effective training activities.
  • Review and evaluate tests/assignments completed by beneficiaries
  • Provide ad-hoc support to beneficiaries through answering questions, providing additional resource materials etc.
  • Register daily attendance of trainees of the courses taught.
  • Follow up and report the number of sessions provided and report to the training coordinator/Project Manager.

Provide weekly reports to training coordinator/Project Manager updating on training progress

  • Required competencies

 

  • design/architecture experience is preferred
  • At least 2 years’ experience of working on construction and/or interior design projects
  • Practical skill set to deliver ‘hands-on’ training, or capacity to source the services of specialists to assist in trainings and demonstrations of specific activities  
  • Previous training or teaching experience preferred
  • Ability and willingness to develop the existing curriculum by providing additional tips and hints for trainees wanting to work in decorative construction
