Executive Director
Act for the Disappeared (ACT) is a Lebanese human rights association founded in 2010. Its mission is to contribute to the clarification of the fate of the disappeared and missing persons in Lebanon, to foster a sustainable reconciliation process and to prevent the recurrence of violence in the country. Since its inception, ACT has been working with the Committee of the Families of the Kidnapped and Disappeared in Lebanon to lobby for the creation of a national commission to investigate the fate of the missing. ACT also works on generating greater public visibility for the cause of the missing and engages with civil society to support the right to know of the families through the preparation and dissemination of informational materials, including TV spots, animation films, posters, publications, and creative campaigns campaign.
Currently ACT works on 3 main projects:
1. Documentation on the fate of the missing and protection of gravesites
2. Psycho-social accompaniment of the Families of the Missing
3. Memorialization and awareness raising
Overall responsibilities:
• Supervise and provide guidance to the staff
• Ensure implementation and follow up of ACT projects
• Ensure proper planning, budgeting and reporting of projects
• Lead monitoring and evaluation
• Ensure close cooperation with ACT’s partners
• Lobby, advocate, network with all stakeholders
• Oversee budgeting, finance, and reporting to donors
• Represent ACT in conferences, seminars, workshops, and other public forums
• Lead efforts on grant applications and other fundraising opportunities
As a part of a small team, the ED will also be directly involved in the execution of project work.
Specific responsibilities:
Strategic and programmatic
• Work with Board of Directors to develop new projects, strengthe and expand projects and develop ACT’s strategy
Programme
• Coordinate and follow up ACT's projects with project managers and partners
• Overview program implementation and budget utilization, ensuring consistency with donor agreements
Human Resource Management
• Day to day management of the office and staff
• Regular staff meetings and internal communication
• Recruitment and selection of new staff members
• Agreeing objectives with staff and providing semi-annual reviews
Budgeting and Grants Managementeting
• Oversee the budget that includes different funders and scopes of work.
• Develop annual and quarterly budget forecasting, align budget spending with programmatic strategy, and execute within agreed-upon budget parameters
• Prepare narrative reports for donors and financial reports in close collaboration with the finance officer
• Maintain positive relationships with donors
Monitoring and Evaluation
• Coordinate and facilitate monitoring and assessment of the projects
• Developing appropriate M&E tools
Governance and Board Relations
• Prepare quarterly management reports for the Board of Directors
• Prepare documentation for annual general assembly meeting and meetings of the Board of Directors
Communication and Fundraising
• Develop the communication strategy of ACT and ensure its implementation
• Represent ACT at seminars, conferences, meetings and other events
• Advocacy, networking and lobbying with stakeholders
• Develop new sources of funding for ACT (individual, digital campaign, new donors, joint programming, etc…)
Team collaboration
• The executive director reports directly to ACT’s Board of Directors • He/she supervise ACT’s staff
Job requirement
• Masters’ degree in social sciences. Relevant courses on advocacy and project cycle management are assets
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience at management level within the field of Human Rights or transitional justice and peace building or socio economic development
• Excellent written and oral communication in English and Arabic

• Solid understanding and command of programming issues
• Proven experience in project design, implementation and evaluation
• Strong organizational and management skills
• Budgeting and financial management
• Strong intercultural sensitivity and the ability to work in a team
• Ability to flexibly react to changes in your working environment;
• Strong writing and analytical skills
