About the Organization:

ABAAD is a non-profit, non-politically affiliated, non-religious civil association that aims to achieve gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD seeks to promote women’s equality and participation through policy development, legal reform, gender mainstreaming, engaging men, eliminating discrimination, and advancing and empowering women to participate effectively and fully in their communities. ABAAD also seeks to support and collaborate with civil society organizations that are involved in gender equality programs and advocacy campaigns.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Psychotherapist will provide psychotherapy services and support to beneficiaries at the WGSS, in addition to provision of technical support to WGSS Case Workers. The Psychotherapist is expected to take part in organizational/specialized mental health monthly meetings with ABAAD.

REPORTING LINES:

Post holder reports to WGSS PM and ABAAD’s MHPSS advisor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

Within the holistic care approach provided to women and girls in the center, the psychotherapist should ensure her presence one full day per week (8am till 4pm) per center and is responsible to:

  1. Providing Psychotherapy services to center’s beneficiaries including:

- Facilitate awareness sessions to women and girls on MH disorders related to GBV

- Moderate support groups for women and girls, when/if needed

- Providing individual psychotherapy services as per need/request from beneficiaries

The main and general objectives of this specialized intervention are:

- Working with beneficiary on her identity and self-awareness

- Working with beneficiary on traumatic events in her life

- Working with beneficiary on the grief process (specifically following the loss of loved ones, the loss of relationships, and the loss of the family or of the couple she was expecting to have, etc.)

- Working with beneficiary on rebuilding healthy relational interactions with others

- Collaborating with CW and Psychiatrist when needed, to ensure that beneficiaries have a healthy and framed access to specialized mental health service.

Other objectives and axis of intervention should be identified when needed based on the psychosocial specifications of each beneficiary.

      2.Providing Technical Support to Case Worker through Weekly Case Study meetings where the psychotherapist supports in the development and implementation of MHPSS action plans tailored to each beneficiary when needed and where training needs of CW are identified.

     3.Taking part in Organizational Monthly Meetings/Specialized Case Management & MHPSS Meetings at ABAAD with MHPSS advisor and participation of Case Workers, GBV Case Management Supervisors & Program Manager (as applicable)

    4.Deliverables:

- To ensure regular/monthly update of patient’s psychotherapy sessions’ records (template annexed to be stored safely in client files at the center).  

- Timesheet to be submitted in signed hard copy version at end of each month to WGSS Coordinator.

  5.Other:

Take part regularly in working sessions and trainings organized by ABAAD or by other partners on the National and International levels based on mutual consensus with ABAAD management team

Take part in research activities or assessments based on mutual consensus with ABAAD management team. 

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor Degree in Psychology. Master Degree is a plus  
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as psychotherapist in NGO
  • Experience in field of working with women and children victims of GBV and CA
  • Ex-experience in working at a shelter or orphanage or any “closed system center” is a plus
  • Understanding relevant legislation, policies and procedures
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to human rights, gender equality, non-discrimination and child protection principles
  • Ability to work under presser and in crisis situation, as individual and in a team
  • Ability to work across socio-cultural and religious contexts
  • Belief in ABAAD’s mission and vision
  • Languages: Fluency in spoken and written Arabic, English and French are a plus
  • Must be computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
