Job Summary:

CARE International in Lebanon (CIL) is implementing a regional response to the Syrian Crisis to meet the immediate and most urgent needs of the women, men, boys and girls who have fled Syria. CARE is supporting local communities with their longer-term needs and basic rights through WASH, Shelter, basic assistance, protection, and longer term economic development solutions and other activities in collaboration with local partner organizations in the North, South, Beirut, and Mount Lebanon Governorates.

 

The midwife will be based in the SDC in (Mount Lebanon, North, Akkar) and will support the Gender and Protection Field focal point in implementing a new project as part of an anticipated Madad funded consortium that addresses issues of women’s rights, strengthening capacity and provision of legal services.  CARE as part of this consortium will be developing community-based protection practices, programs, and activities with the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) to support and strengthen its social development centers (SDCs). This position will work directly in the SDC’s and support the center in a specific area in initiatives to address gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health information, and youth safe spaces and develop community outreach strategies and trainings with technical inputs from the Gender and Protection focal point and work closely with SDC staff.

Education & Certification:

Degree in Midwifery and Registered with Midwifery syndicate

Minimum Education Level:

Bachelor degree

Proven Experience:

  • Experience in programming and promoting issues on protection, GBV, sexual reproductive health (SRH), early child marriage (ECM), women’s voice and/or economic empowerment in preferably an NGO setting is a plus.
  • A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years work experience in implementing programmes focused on women and girls victims or at risk of violence
  • Deep knowledge of GBV issues and ad hoc curriculum;

 

IT / Software / Technical Skills:

Familiarity with MS Office software, such as Excel

Detailed Responsibilities & Tasks

  1. General duties and responsibilities:

 

  • Works directly with woman/girls/men/boys ,roving between SDCs, to carry  out awareness sessions      activities with them, involving community members when appropriate.
  • Ensures that GBV SOPs are understood, enacted, maintained and applied in the SDC.
    Informs supervisors about any difficulty met in CARE’s activity implementation.
  • Provide overall Sexual and  Reproductive Health technical oversight of all activities to ensure interventions is evidence based culturally appropriate, and high impact. Acts in the best interests of women and girls.

     

  1. Specific duties and responsibilities:
     
  • Providing life skills trainings on sexual and reproductive health to project beneficiaries at SDC with great focus on youth.
  • Support the development of educational material for sexual and reproductive health interventions
  • Disseminate SRHR best practices at community level to community leaders, stakeholder, women’s groups and others.
  • Provide assistance through a preventative approach in arranging and providing parenting and health education for the woman, her partner and family
  • Educate women on fertility, warning signs of pregnancy complications, hygiene, vaginal infections, family planning and children’s health.
  • Refer internally pregnant women or women in need with contraceptive and ultrasounds to the gynecologist using proper referral pathways
  • Following WHO guidelines for antenatal care as well as other relevant guidelines and Lebanese law
  • providing on-the-job training to social workers on SRHR when needed
  • Manage SRHR initiatives, campaigns and other activities both at the community and SDC level
  • Refer to social worker for support if needed for any beneficiaries.

 

 

  • Reporting:
  • Provide in respect of the following timeline, the program activities (weekly report of daily activities), monitoring tool (weekly filled)
  • Collect from other social worker information about vulnerable cases.
  • Coordinate and write the weekly evaluation report.

     

  • Meeting:
  • Be available to participate in meetings in the centre or in CARE’s Office (if needed).
  • Meets with other program staff as required.
  • Any change to the proposed activities should be discussed with the CARE’s area focal points.
  • A high degree of flexibility on the part of all staff is expected in order to respond to the ever-evolving situation. This job description may change based on the situation in the field.
  • He/she can be asked required to perform other related duties as identified by his supervisor.
