About ACTED

ACTED is an international NGO that has been registered in Leba­non since 2006. It has an established country office in Beirut as well as a field office in Akkar. More recently, it has been carrying out activities in the South, Akkar, Mount Lebanon and Tripoli.

 

ACTED works closely with local authorities and civil society stakeholders at the com­munity level to implement priori­ty humanitarian interventions such as emergency multi-purpose cash assis­tance, WASH projects (including disease monitoring and infrastructural and behavioural response), and Shelter interven­tions incorporating multiple modalities. ACTED is also implementing long-term development projects with focus on agriculture cooperatives to rehabilitate infrastructure, improv­e agricultural production, increase livelihood opportunities and support state and non-state ac­tors to improve service deliv­ery and social stability through col­lective development planning.

 

Project: Women Economic Participation-Funded by UNDP

This project’s overall objective is “to contribute to the economic empowerment of Lebanese and Syrian women in Lebanon”. The project is designed to build the economic resilience and capacity of conflict affected, displaced and hosting women and girls in the South and Bekaa region of Lebanon.

The interventions will seek to integrate women’s economic participation with advocacy efforts, focusing at the individual, community and systemic levels.

It focuses in one part on improving the technical capacity of women on targeted value chain to improve their access to secure and sustainable income and livelihoods and on institutional and community levels to enhance the capacity of stakeholders to recognize women’s specific economic needs and to enact policy change to address them.

To this end, the project will promote inclusive and market system development through looking at the economic, social and environmental enabling environment that is necessary to function effectively and equitably.

The targeted beneficiaries will receive a package of trainings and awareness sessions that will empower them, and provide them with basic skills to be in a better position to seek, at the end of the project, improved livelihood opportunities.

Assignment

The Beekeeping trainer will be responsible for delivering a curriculum that covers the objectives of the training described below and conducting 6 sessions of theoretical and practical training for 10 groups between 15 and 20 women each,  in the Bekaa and South for vulnerable Lebanese and Syrian beneficiaries with no or minimum experience in this domain.

The training aims at supporting the beneficiaries to acquire technical skills that will enable them to find employment opportunities or establish their own business.

Curriculum Outline:

  1. Course overview and description
  2. Introduction to beekeeping- composition of beehive
  3. Management of beehives including proper management, monitoring, proper nutrition, selection of site
  4. Operation and Maintenance of equipment and tools
  5. Beehives diseases, parasites and treatments
  6. Raising queens, artificial and Natural swarming
  7. Honey Harvesting technique and storage with practical application
  8. New beekeeping technologies, by-products and artificial insemination

 

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Provide a beekeeping curriculum as per the above outline; Note that trainer should abide to the final training topics selected according to the project document and knowledge level of beneficiaries.
  • Develop an outline consisting of a lesson plan and timeline for each session
  • Prepare a BoQ (Bills of Quantities) for tool kit materials for women
  • Provide needed materials that will be used during the training sessions including handouts, presentations, multimedia materials etc
  • Ensure access to an apiary in the Bekaa and south in the training areas selected by ACTED for the practical hands on training sessions.
  • Conduct 6 training sessions online or onsite depending on the situation (up to 3 hours per session) for 10 groups around 15 and 20 women each (specific areas will be specified at a later stage) using your curriculum
  • Develop, review and evaluate pre and post-tests completed by beneficiaries. Tests should include scoring of practical display of skills
  • Conduct a mapping of companies and factories working in the honey sector in Lebanon including distributors, suppliers, input supply shops, hive makers, import/export companies, retail shops/super markets and FNB sector.
  • Organize info sessions with mapped out actors to improve networking between beneficiaries and private sector. Support ACTED in placing specific beneficiaries in internships and/or job placements within private sector companies.

 

Reporting:

  • Register daily attendance of beneficiaries as per the attendance sheet provided by ACTED team
  • Develop and conduct pre and post tests
  • Follow up and report the number of sessions provided and report to the training coordinator/Project Manager
  • Provide weekly work plan to the training Coordinator/Project Manager
  • Provide weekly reports to the training Coordinator/Project Manager with information on training progress

 

Coordination:

  • Coordinate with Project Manager and project team on all updates related to the implementation process

Target audience and profile:

  • The training will be delivered to a mixed group of vulnerable Lebanese and Syrian women beneficiaries, 18 years old and above.
  • Beneficiaries’ selection will be carried out by ACTED team

 

Required competencies:

  • At least 5 years of experience in working in the beekeeping sector. Priority for candidates with experience in Lebanese market.
  • Degree in agricultural sciences, animal husbandry or related coursework.
  • Relevant trainings/certifications within the beekeeping sector
  • Previous experience in conducting trainings preferred
  • Patience and positive attitude is highly requested
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Excellent Arabic skills, both written and oral
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good presentation skills
  • Good reporting skills
  • Excellent eye for detail
