AVSI - PSYCHO-MOTOR THERAPISTS NEEDED ON A CONSULTANCY BASIS FOR DIFFERENT LOCATIONS

  1. Context

AVSI is an Italian NGO working in Lebanon since 1996, registered with the Ministry of Interior in 2006 under decree nb. 171194. Since 2013, AVSI and UNICEF have worked together, with different partnership agreements, to identify, refer and integrate out-of-school children into the formal education system, as well as to provide non-formal education alternatives.

As part of the collaboration between AVSI and UNICEF, AVSI is offering special needs services for children enrolled in their centers. In the same scope of work of this activity, and in the aims of identifying vulnerable children with special medical needs, AVSI is offering psychomotor therapy sessions for the children who are in need of it.

           

  1. Recipient of this document

This TOR is intended to Psychomotor specialists and therapists in order to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat psychomotor disorders in children:

  • Psychomotor disorders are also associated conditions that affect mental health or neurological function. It is a physical expression of anxiety and mental tension. It can take many forms, some that are less serious and others that are more severe. It involves repetitive, purposeless, or unintentional movements and behaviors. These movements and behaviors are made in response to feelings of restlessness caused by increased anxiety.
  • A child experiencing psychomotor agitation, may display behaviors in a way that seems: uncontrollable, without purpose, frantic, repetitive and frustrated.
  • When a person is more severely affected by psychomotor agitation, they  may behave in ways that could cause their body some harm, including: biting their lips until they bleed, ripping skin off from around their lips, pulling skin off from around their nails, chewing the inside of their cheek.

 

Required qualification:

  • Bachelor degree in Psychomotility (Diploma).
  • Fluent in Arabic, English or French.

 

Personal qualification:

  • Communication skills:  The psychomotor therapist need to communicate test results, diagnosis, and proposed treatments in a way that patients and their families understand.
  • Compassion: The psychomotor therapist works with people who are often frustrated by their difficulties. The psychomotor therapist needs to support emotionally these patients and their families.
  • Critical Thinking skills: The psychomotor therapist must be able to adjust their treatment plans as needed, finding alternative ways to help their patients.

 

  1. Target of this service

     

      Children from 3 to 14 years attending the non-formal education in AVSI centers, followed up by UNICEF 17 team, the inclusion officer and the case managers.

 

  1. Tasks
  • To give the children referred by the team an initial assessment of their needs and propose a treatment plan if necessary.
  • send a detailed report on the child follow’s-up

 

 

  1. Expected implementation period and submission deliverables:

During the upcoming cycles till December 2020.

 

  1. Field of work
  • One psychomotor therapist for the children in the governorate of Mount Lebanon.
  • One psychomotor therapist for the children in the governorate of South.
  • One psychomotor therapist for the children in the governorate of Akkar.
