Organizational Background

Assisting more than 90 million people in 83 countries each year, the World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.
As the international community has committed to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition by 2030, one in nine people worldwide still do not have enough to eat. Food and food-related assistance lie at the heart of the struggle to break the cycle of hunger and poverty.

In Lebanon, WFP works to support approximately 700,000 people with regular assistance using e-cards. WFP also supports Lebanese schools with school meals, and has run over 300 development activities which include supporting rural infrastructure, as well as education and training opportunities for vulnerable individuals in families. WFP also supports Lebanon’s National Poverty Targeting Programme.  

Organizational Context:

The post is based in Beirut CO and the incumbent is to report to the Communications Officer.

Job Purpose:

To provide research and specialised communications services that support the creation of content and services aimed at maintaining and enhancing WFP’s visibility and reputation and supporting fundraising activities.

Accountabilities: 

Within delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the Communications Officer and the overall supervision of the Country Director, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: 

Content creation: 
1.    Conduct research, suggest ideas, and provide coordination support to ensure the timely and effective delivery of video/film, photographic and radio projects that support and engages audiences in a meaningful way
2.    Support External Relations unit with donor visibility materials aligned with the online content strategy
3.    Work with programmes and other WFP units to ensure full coverage of the Mission’s activities and the generation of new content 
4.    Distribute and promote communications guidelines for WFP staff to refer to when creating content
5.    Ensures consistent messaging, quality control and a coherent user experience across WFP digital platforms

Monitoring and reporting:
6.    Capture and analyses appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices to support continuous improvement
7.    Monitor traditional and social media and report relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies
8.    Stay abreast of latest trends and updates in the online field

Visits and events:
9.    Support the communications department in media mission and donor visits to the field when needed through AV and photo coverage
10.    Support External Relations unit/Country Director during field visits when needed
11.    Organise and execute special events, working closely with colleagues, external partners and media, to ensure events are effectively scheduled, publicised and attended

Internal communication:
12.    Manage WFP intranet on SharePoint: structure and content update. 
13.    Gather business requirements from different units and programmes to tailor the platform to the operations
14.    Integrate and automate current processes and increases internal traffic to the platform.
15.    Engage staff further and introduce new features 

Others:
16.    Manage the storage and distribution of audio/visual materials in accordance with relevant policies
17.    Manage updates and further develop internal records and databases, ensuring information is accurate, organised and available for others to access
18.    Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in order to provide an aligned, coherent service, and to identify opportunities to collaborate/integrate processes and activities
19.    Implement improvements to communications methods and practices, to contribute to a better flow of information about WFP’s work to the media and stakeholders
20.    Respond to specialised queries and requests for support, using initiative and following standard processes, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all enquiries
21.    Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Education: Completion of Secondary School Education. University degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications or other relevant field is a plus.

Experience: At least five (5) years of relevant progressively responsible experience in communications, ideally within a humanitarian organisation.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic languages.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE: 

•    Has demonstrated a sound understanding of WFP communication techniques and activities and awareness of the socio-political context in which WFP operates through day to day work
•    Has managed digital and social media platforms before
•    Has gained experience in utilising specialist communications techniques to enhance functional outputs
•    Has liaised with third-party suppliers to create content, manage work or organize event
•    Has provided ad-hoc guidance to new staff members
