MERCY CORPS - Tender 425 - Odor Control System Design (Re advertised)

A solid waste treatment and disposal facility has recently been commissioned for the Union of Municipalities of Bouhayra, located in Jeb Jennine in the West Bekaa. The facility consists of a mechanical biological treatment (MBT) facility and adjacent sanitary landfill and will be processing approximately 100 tons of municipal solid waste per day from 18 municipalities within the Union. One of the major challenges is the waste gas produced due to degradation of organic waste in the composting plant in Jen-Jennine and needs to be ventilated and cleaned.

As such, in order to ensure the environmental sustainability and social acceptability of the facility’s operations, the present project aims to develop a detailed design and prepare tender documents for an Odour control system for the facility in Jeb Jenin. The implementation of the system will thus ensure the social acceptance of the facility after reduction of gases emissions that will reduce the smell. The biogas production will require a system made up of pre-scrubber and bio filters to collect and oxidise the gas produced. The proposed odour control system aims to treat these typical components to be treated H₂S, NH₃, Odour components, MEK, Methoxypropanol, BTEX, Naturally formed solvents, etc..

The system shall include a pre-scrubber to clean the gases, humidify and cool them by washing liquid. The pre-conditioned, cooled and humidified exhaust air is then led into the bio filter bed.
