Speech Therapist / Orthophoniste

HCI-Middle East located in Lebanon, a leading local organization based in Tripoli and Beirut, seeks a Speech Therapist/Orthophoniste Adviser for the anticipated USAID-funded Improving Public Education Outcomes (IPEO) Program. The project aims to support the Ministry of Education (MEHE) and Center for Education and Research and Development (CERD) to improve reading, writing, and social and emotional learning skills of girls and boys in public primary schools in Lebanon. The program will support the public education system’s overall capacity to plan, budget, deliver, monitor, evaluate and institutionalize quality educational services by providing in-depth technical assistance to the CERD and the MEHE after assessing their institutional needs and gaps. Improving the use of data for enrollment, retention and learning will be essential for sustained outcomes. Speech Therapist/ Orthophoniste Adviser

This component focuses on all the elements that are needed in order to improve reading outcomes in the early grades, namely the expansion of early
grade reading interventions in all public primary schools in Arabic and, to the extent possible, in numeracy and in the other official languages of instruction taught in public schools, the implementation of an early grade reading assessment and the development of grade-level reading
benchmarks, the establishment of classroom learning assessment processes, the development of an early warning system, the dissemination of educational materials and relevant technology and the establishment of school mechanisms that promote parental engagement in children’s
learning.

• Organize workshops in a form of capacity building for Lebanese Public Schools Teachers and Directors (Formation) related to the area of writing, reading (Arabic, English and French) and math in a sustainable manner for the latter to implement with their students
• Provide training and education to school teachers (grades 1-6) and other school professionals
• Liaise with the teachers on a regular basis for follow-up on special cases of students (Lebanese and non-Lebanese) during day and afternoon sessions as required
• Communicate with students upon teachers referrals to evaluate and diagnose their levels of speech, language and communication in basic literacy and numeracy - Arabic, French, English and Math
• Work collaboratively with the Special Educator, the Social & Emotional Learning Adviser as well as the Project Manager to ensure effective communication
• This position is in a form of a consultancy agreement part-time (working hours decided with the Project Manager and the needs)
