Volunteer Helpline Operator
Volunteers are asked to fill in the form in the following link https://embracelebanon.org/become-a-lifeline-operator/
Background
With one person dying of suicide every 2.5 days and one suicide attempt every 6 hours, suicide is becoming a major public health concern in Lebanon. For this reason, Embrace has established the first national suicide prevention and emotional support helpline in the region: The Embrace Lifeline (1564). The Embrace Life Line is a specialized telephone service that provides suicide risk assessment, collaborative intervention in life threatening suicidal emergencies, and referrals to community resources and treatment programs. The Embrace Lifeline currently operates from 12:00 P.M (noon) until 5:30 A.M daily.
Helpline Operators
The helpline would not be possible without the help of our dedicated volunteer helpline operators. Helpline operators work hard at answering crisis calls, de-escalating crises, and providing the caller with emotional support. With the aim of having the Embrace Lifeline available 24/7, the need to have more volunteer helpline operators is major.
To become a Lifeline operator, volunteers are required to submit their profiles, after which they are interviewed and accordingly invited to attend a 3-day training on "Active Listening and Intervention in Suicidal Crisis". After successfully completing the training volunteers are enrolled into the volunteerig program for an observational period before they take on their role as Embrace Lifeline Operators.
Please note that as the Embrace Lifeline operator is a volunteering position it is therefore unpaid.
Kindly find below the application requirements.
