Ruwwad Al-Tanmeya is a regional non-profit community development organization that works with disenfranchised communities through education, youth volunteerism and grassroots organizing. Our approach encompasses an array of programs and projects that, together, strengthen initiative and facilitate redress to problems prioritized by members of the community. We believe in Embracing pluralism, Respecting diversity and Promoting equity wherever we operate.

Ruwwad, which spans today Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and Palestine, and operates through a strong network of partnerships with civil society and governmental agencies, is the articulation of this ambition. Ruwwad operates through an annual endowment from corporations and business entrepreneurs who are represented on its board.  Their long-term commitment, social investments and knowledge sharing allow us to be at once flexible and decisive in addressing the communities’ needs and in mobilizing their full participation. Ruwwad, in effect, is a platform for engagement between proactive citizens, the youth scholars and the community. The majority of Ruwwad’s team members are from the local communities. The youth scholars are brought on board as interns. Upon completion of the internship, many opt to join Ruwwad fulltime.

Ruwwad is a citizen-led model. It utilizes the community service hours of the scholars to create safe learning spaces for children and adolescents and to facilitate the creation of local income generation initiatives; mobilizes the families to launch grassroots campaigns that help engender social change; and advocates for access to rights-based services through various partnerships within civil society. Youth scholars and volunteers help execute the programs.Ruwwad founded in 2005, established its first community center in  Jabal Al Natheef, east Amman. Between 2011 and 2013, Ruwwad’s regional expansion took place through Aramex, as a main partner corporation, and a network of entrepreneurs. n Lebanon, Ruwwad was founded in Tripoli in 2012, between Tebbaneh and Jabal Mohsen, 2 of the most marginalized communities having witnessed years of sectarian clashes. The overall aim of the project is to contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic conditions of the most vulnerable populations in the city of Tripoli in the sensitive neighborhoods of Bab el-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen.

The project has three specific objectives: 1) to support the local economy through enterprise creation and support for existing businesses, 2) to sustain and strengthen the activities of the NGO Ruwwad and 3) to improve social cohesion between communities of the two targeted neighborhoods.
