Gender And Diversity In The Lebanese Society

Proud Lebanon is pleased to organize its first workshop in Tripoli: “Gender and Diversity in the Lebanese society”.
The workshop will take place in Tripoli, on Saturday 9th of July 2016 between 9.30AM and 4.00PM.
Proud Lebanon is a nonprofit civil society working to achieve protection, empowerment and equality to marginalized groups through community service activities. Proud is dedicated to build a healthy empowered community in Lebanon and the region, where people are effectively empowered and participate in democratic processes that affect their lives and their communities.
Background:In our society today, communities are made up of people with a wide range of ideas and orientations, even about issues as fundamental as gender. Anyone engaging in his/her community may be challenged by ideas and orientations that they have not considered. Among these ideas, differing ideas about gender can be very challenging, especially if a person hasn’t thought about the issues of growing up male or female and how gender expectations affect day-to-day working relationships. This workshop invites social actors to think and dialogue on what gender is and on their own attitudes toward it and how it affects their society.
This workshop aims to:• Promote awareness on Gender issues and Human Rights. • Build on the expertise and knowledge of participants on Gender and Diversity. • Providing the participants with practical recommendations to use in the field.• Create a network of field workers/ key persons/organizations/ Journalists etc to work together towards goals related to Gender and Human Rights.
Criteria of the participants:o Local activists interested in the topic.o Staff of organizations working in the area. o University students.
PS: Transportation is provided from Beirut, Byblos, Batroun and Shekka.
