Ndu: Mixed Methods Research: Making The Best Of Both Worlds

The Lebanese Emigration Research Center
at Notre Dame University - Louaizé
has the pleasure of inviting you to a lecture entitled
“Mixed Methods Research: Making the Best of Both Worlds”
Lecture
This seminar will discuss the value of mixed-method research designs, which combine qualitative and quantitative research strategies.  It will be argued that the research question/s be examined from various vantage points, allowing for greater depth of insight.  Further, through the process of triangulation, researchers are able to validate their findings from multiple vantage points.  It will be shown how mixed-method designs can follow a number of sequenced phases, which either start with qualitative research, which refines the questions for the quantitative phase of the research, or vice versa.  Alternatively, a mixed-method research design may involve the in-depth study of a single case, using multiple research methods including structure/unstructured interviews, participant observation, a survey and historical documentary evidence.
Lecturer: Dr. Nelia Hyndman – Rizk
