Transwomen’s Navigation of Arrest and Detention in Beirut: A case study
 
with:
Ms. Adriana Qubaiaa PhD candidate in the department of Gender Studies in the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. Through ethnographic research in Beirut, she is exploring the mechanisms of gendering political activisms, including the interactions between politics of queer (in)visibility and sexual identity formations and negotiations.
Mr. Ahmad Salehworks in harm reduction and outreach at Skoun and is a longterm sexual rights activist and caseworker in Helem. He is currently finishing an MS in Epidemiology at the American University of Beirut.
Discussant: Me Youmna Makhlouf.gradient lawyer in Beirut, preparing a PhD in law. She is also a member of Legal Agenda, and contributes regularly to it.
 
The round table discussion will tackle the paper to be published by  Lebanon Support, written by Ms Qubbaia and Mr Saleh, which looks into detention practices as manifested in the cases of detained transwomen in the context of wider policing of gender and sexuality norms, bodies, and behaviors in Beirut.
The discussion will be held in Arabic.
