The Limits Of Dissidence In Gender Activism In Lebanon

Lebanon Support
Cordially invites you to a round table discussion on:
The Limits of Dissidence in Gender Activism in Lebanon.
with:Ms Sabiha Alloucheis a third year PhD candidate in Gender Studies at SOAS, University of London from where she obtained her MA in Gender Studies (2012). Her current research examines the timing and increased visibility of “dissident bodies” in Lebanon - defined as men and women who operate beyond Lebanon's norms of sex and sexuality. Using qualitative methods, her research incorporates narratives of ‘sex encounters’ in order to show how marginal sexualities are re-writing the politics of shame in Lebanon often to the benefit of a renewed patriarchy.
Discussant: Ms Sarah Abou Ghazelis a Palestinian-Lebanese writer who mostly works on feminist knowledge production. She is part of Sawt Al Niswa.
The round table discussion will tackle the paper to be published by  Lebanon Support, written by Ms Allouche, that looks into the convergences and tensions between dissidence and activism.
The discussion will be held in Arabic.

Date: Thursday November 6th, 2014 – 18:00Location: Lebanon Support Office, 3rd FloorShaghouri Building, Najib Azouri Street, Adlieh, Beirut (follow this link for the map)For further information and confirmation of attendanceEmail: [email protected]: (+961) 1 397495
