Glocalizing Humanitarian Interventions In Lebanon: An Action Agenda Towards, And After, The World Humanitarian Summit In Istanbul, Roundtable Discussion
The Word Humanitarian Summit will be held in Istanbul on May 23rd and 24th. Local civil society in Lebanon has been engaged in the preparation process for the past 2 years.
One month ago, Lebanon Support and Amel published a call for papers on glocalization of humanitarian action, to produce evidence on Lebanese innovative practices in relation with humanitarian action, availableon this link.
Moreover and recently, an open letter was drafted in relation with key concerns which were raised during the consultation and publication processes. This letter is now open for signature and availableon this link. If your organization wishes to sign this letter, please email [email protected].
Finally and within this framework, Lebanon Support and Amel invite you to a round table titled “Glocalizing humanitarian interventions in Lebanon: an action agenda towards, and after, the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul”. The round-table will be held on Thursday May 19th at Lebanon Support’s office in Furn el-Chebbak (follow this link for directions) from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
The round table will include a presentation of the key milestones of the civil society engagement in the WHS, a discussion on the key concerns related to humanitarian action and WHS in Lebanon and Comments by authors of the papers submitted to the call for publications. The round table will also include a discussion on the ways forward (Presentation of the WHS agenda, Additional messages to convey at the WHS, Promoting/disseminating the open letters and the additional messages, Strengthening LNGOs’ engagement at the Summit, Steps after the summit, Briefing and other suggestions).
The round table will be a space for informal discussion and will include interventions from: Philippe Lazzarini (United Nations, Humanitarian and Resident Coordinator), Dr Kamel Mohanna, Amel Association International, Ziad Abdel Samad, (Arab NGO Network for Development), Georges Ghali (ALEF), Reem Al-Haswani (Bassma w Zeitooneh), Fran Beytrison, Oxfam, Lebanon.
It will also feature short interventions from some authors of papers submitted to the call for publications.
