Lebanese Order of Midwives

The Lebanese order of midwives has been recently established following the elections held on the 15th of June 2014. The order regulates the profession of midwifery in Lebanon according to the Midwives regulation (1657/1979) and to the Lebanese midwifery order law (249/2014).In order to practice midwifery in Lebanon, registration with the Order is required. The first registration with the Order began in September 2014; and targeted qualified midwives, holding a university degree in Midwifery or equivalent degree recognized by the Lebandese Ministry of Education and Higher Education, competent and capable of providing safe, high quality care to women, newborns, infants and their families in Lebanon.
The Order’s mandate is:
- To regulate the profession of midwifery in accordance with the law (249/2014),
- To serve and protect the public interest, specifically the women, and their infants,
- To guarantee the expected degree of professionalism provided by the Order’s members.
The scope of midwifery practice outlined within the Law of 1979 (1675/1979) delineates the activities that midwives are entitled to perform.
