Training Workshop for Young People on Inclusive Design

In the framework of the NET-MED Youth Project (UNESCO/EU), and in collaboration with The Centre for Lebanese Studies, this project aims to promote a more inclusive society through empowering young women and men, both with and without disabilities, on advocacy and leadership for the rights of PWDs in Lebanon, with focus on also promoting the concept of inclusive design and the important role of youth in this process. “Inclusive design” is a new way of thinking about creating an accessible and inclusive environment that addresses the needs of all sectors of the society including parents with children, the elderly and people with different body sizes and shapes and people with disabilities.
Who can apply?
Young people between age 18 to 30 who would like to learn about inclusive design and engage in active and practical fieldwork and advocacy for the rights of people with disabilities in Lebanon.
What will the workshop focus on?
Participants will be trained on rights of persons with disabilities, the concept of mainstreaming disability and the role of youth in it, in addition to the concept of inclusive design, and how to plan and conduct an access audit using the inclusive design index. The workshop will last for two days. In the first day, participants will learn about inclusive design and how to conduct an assessment of any environment. They will then be asked to conduct an assessment of a building of their choice. Participants will return for day 2 of the workshop to share the results of their assessment and to receive further training on inclusive design.

Who is the trainer?
Dr Itab Shuayb will conduct the training. She has a PhD in inclusive design from Kent University and is a specialist in this field.
 
Certification
Participants will receive a certificate acknowledging the acquired skills.
